We’re excited to introduce our newest moderators to the community!
Some of them may already be familiar faces, while others are joining us for the first time — but each of them is here to help guide conversations, support members, and keep our community welcoming and engaging.
To introduce themselves, we asked each moderator to share a memorable travel story that started with a train delay.
Here’s what they shared:

A train delay in Germany once forced a last-minute change of plans, which unexpectedly turned into a much better alternative.

My Eurostar from Paris to Rotterdam was heavily delayed due to a storm, but the experience turned out surprisingly positive. We received free food, and the staff even arranged and paid for my taxi home. Tip: if you’re stuck, always ask about taxi options. They can often organise one, but you need to request it.

During a group trip, my train was delayed in Paris, so I decided to explore the station. That’s when I tasted macarons for the first time and bought ten for the journey.

On a group trip from Mannheim Hbf to Utrecht, we discovered our train was actually split into two separate trains, and we were on the wrong one. Luckily, we managed to switch cars at the next stop, otherwise we would have ended up stranded in Dortmund at midnight.

On our way back to the Netherlands, our first train was cancelled mid-journey, leaving us stuck in a tunnel for two hours. The unexpected result was an overnight stay in Düsseldorf that turned into such a pleasant surprise that we extended our visit by two extra days.

When my ferry from Corfu to Bari was delayed, I missed all my connections to Utrecht. I swapped my reservations for trains to Milan, but with no direct options left, I travelled home entirely by regional trains. It took 24 hours, definitely an adventure I won’t forget.

A delay in Serbia left me stranded in Subotica, a city I had never even heard of. It turned out to be charming, with locals selling homemade products at a lively market.

My train to Innsbruck was delayed with no remaining connections, leaving me stuck for hours with a group of strangers who somehow became friends I still keep in touch with today.
