My friend started booking our train seat reservations today and he added me and my other friend to his MyTrip on the interrail mobile app so we could all sit together since he booked the reservations for all of us.
Does this mean that my pass has to be activated on HIS app rather than mine when the time comes??

The reservation is one thing and the ticket you need to create in the app is something else. Even when you have a reservation you need to create a trip in the app and create a ticket with a QR code. This means that you show the ticket on your phone and your friend will show the reservations.
