Travelling by train

I am planning a trip as a solo 60 year old in Jan 2026.1/24 - leave Chamonix early to travel to Interlocken OST. I want to take the Mont Blanc Express and golden pass express.1/25 - leave Interlocken for Montreux - Golden Pass Express preferred1/26 - Montreux to Gruyere and back by train1/27 - Leave Montreux  late morning to Paris, High speed train if availableWhat eurail pass should I get? Will I need to reserve a seat on Mont Blanc? Will I need to reserve a seat (first class) on Golden Pass? Will I need to reserve a seat on high speed Montreux to Paris? If I have Eurail, how do add those reservations? Any help appreciated.

Good day. I am 60 yrs old. My wife is 62. Son is 20. Daughter 25. We are vacationing in Vienna in early June. We want to travel within Austria,take a 2 day trip to Venice(we want to travel there overnight) and hopefully day trips to Prague and Budapest. We’re new to this. What do you recommend as the most convenient vs least expensive trains. Thank you

Hi guys!Would be nice to have a collection of wrong (or missing) information on the Railplanner App.I will start:IC/IR/EC Switzerland<->Domodossola: The app says a reservation is required. Actually there is none required. Just if you continue to/from Domodossola from other Italian destinations, a reservation is needed…  EN (München/Zürich)-Salzburg-Budapest: The EuroCity part of this train is not shown in the app. With the EC carriages you can travel without a reservation between Salzburg and Budapest. For many EC/RJ trains between Budapest and Vienna it says that a reservation is required. That’s not true. Only for domestic trips INSIDE Hungary (e.g. Budapest-Györ) a reservation is required (which can be easily done on a ticket machine at the station or also online). For many trains on the Bludenz-Bregenz line it says “not in pass network” if they are coming from Schruns. This is due to Montafonerbahn being not part of the

I paid for a seat yesterday.However, I was notified that the purchase was too late, but the money was still deducted EUR22When I arrived at the station, the staff asked me to pay EUR20 for a seat. 

I plan to travel from Sweden to Switzerland in mid December using my Interrail pass and - as I currently don’t have a GA/Half fare card - use one of my three I/O-days to reach my hometown near Lucerne. As I arrive in Basel from Hamburg by night train, I will arrive at home hopefully in the late morning.  So far so easy.Now I have the idea to make a round trip to Bern for visiting some friends in the evening of the same day. According to numerous posts here in the community, I can use my Interrail also for those trips.SBB, on the other hand, clearly states on their website, that I may use the I/O days only for travelling once to and once from the boarder stations or the airports.

Hello, I am currently planning my first trip to Istanbul. From Istanbul, I would like to follow the itinerary recommended by the Interrail website at this link (departing from Istanbul to Paris): https://www.interrail.eu/fr/plan-your-trip/trip-ideas/recommended-routes/classic-routes/london-istanbul-train-route However, I can't find any recent articles confirming that I will be able to travel from Istanbul to Sofia and then from Sofia to Craiova in March. Can anyone confirm that these connections exist? If so, which European cities can be reached from Istanbul? Thank you very much in advance for your help !

My wife purchased Eurorail pass for the both of us.  Do I need to create a separate account to access?  

Hi everyone! I bought a flexi trip Eurail pass for myself and family back in September hoping to get organised and book rail journeys. Our first one will be Munich-Salzburg but there are no journeys available when I search trips for the 14th December? I am reading everywhere they should show up 3-6 months prior but 2 months before now and the app isnt showing them- is there a reason for this? Is there another app i can use the Eurail tickets on as Im starting to feel it was a waste of money and its used up a heap of my time already trying to figure out how to use the passes :/ 

Hello, I am looking to go to Istanbul from Sofia, when I searched about it I started to see that I need a pass. I do not understand what is this pass for, is it a railway pass or something else? I am from Azerbaijan so with my passport I am free to go Turkey for 90 days and also I have a residence permit in Lithuania so I can freely travel to Bulgaria without any visa. My question is could someone please explain what are the passes? And do I need it to buy a train ticket from Sofia to Istanbul?

Is it possible to get from thun to Zermatt via train?  I am planning a europe trip for next year and when I put this into the trip planner, only 1 train is available per day, and none are available for the return trip. Planning around the end of october next year. 

We had to scan our ticket at a barrier to board a train from St Lazare to Rouen.  The QR code was not accepted,  a message 'Titre non valide' with a big red cross appeared.  The assistant couldn't help but eventually another colleague let us through as the train was about to leave. Are we likely to have the same problem on our return trip to Paris?  Everything looked ok with our ticket,   train number, date, time etc.It's the first time we've had to go through a barrier,   scanning during ticket inspection on other routes has been fine

My favorite adventure was when I traveled through part of Western Europe with my Interrail pass. I left Hungary with a friend and on the first day in Austria we visited the city of Vienna. That evening we continued by train to Prague, Czech Republic. It was very exciting because the train was late and we almost missed our booked accommodation, but everything turned out great. We spent two beautiful days in Prague and then continued our journey to Berlin by train, which seemed like a very quick travel. Berlin was fascinating, but we could only stay for one night because our journey continued to Amsterdam. One of the most incredible experiences I had was “discovering” Amsterdam. I had the most unforgettable europe trip at the start of this year. I utilised the eurail pass which made travelling just that bit more special. The trains are something else and the efficacy makes it great! There is something special about being able to hop on a train in another country and being able to turn up to another one in 3 hours or more. I also got engaged in prague, and a little sotry about this is my partner organised everything without my knowledge and without this train pass the engagement would never of occurred! The most unforgettable trip I took was an Interrail trip with my two best friends, Alex and Roi. At the beginning of the summer, we got together and decided to embark on a 12-day adventure through six European countries. We left at the end of July from Brussels, where we started by visiting the city, its monuments, and the EU institutions. We also tried the typical dishes: mussels, fries, and, of course, Belgian chocolate.From there, we went to Amsterdam, which was only two hours away by train. When I look on other sites there are many ways to travel to my destinations that are in Germany and Austria. Do I just have to use the routes suggested by the travel planner?  If I opt for other routes can I use my Interrail pass on any train line in Holland, Belgium, Germany or Austria. What are the pitfalls of not going with the suggestions by the planner

Please as advice if getting a 7 day GP can be used to on eurostar I want to travel from London to France & Italy. Is a 7day pass going to be helpful. I want to travel to many cities in Italy but do not want to get  ocp as it doesn't cover all trains.From what I am reading reserving seats & using the pass seems very complicatedWhat's the best or recommended train to travel
