Travelling by train

Looking for recommendations. We are traveling to Switzerland and France flying into Milan taking train to Switzerland for 1 week and then going to France for a week. Would a Eurail pass be the best choice and if so does it include the Glacier Express?Thank you!

Hi, does anyone know how to actually reserve train seats on the train websites, not the Interrail/Eurail site? I’ve seen a few people say to do this, especially with night trains or when the seat reservation isn't available yet on the Interrail site. However, whenever I try to do this on the actual site, like Railjet, it says I need to book a ticket as well and doesn't give me the option to enter my rail pass and then pay for the seat.  Help anyone who's a 1st-time Interrail user?? Thank you!

Hi AllOur first post!In September we (wife and I plus a 3 year old and 9 month old) are travelling London - Paris - Bern - Karlsruhe - Brussels - London I've had limited train travel experience in Europe. Do trains typically have space for pushchairs or when booking reservations do I need to request specific spaces? Ideally I would like us all sat together on the train. Again, when booking is there something I should be selecting when buying reservations?Thanks in advance   

Just wanted to share my personal experience with ticket gates on my interrail trips so far.This post is inspired by the earlier question regarding the gates in spain for trains without reservations (Cercanias) Italy open with the QR-Code from your Interrail Pass but only once a day at the same station? I'm planning an Interrail trip this summer (around August) with 3 friends.We were wondering if it's a good idea to sleep on the train for one night (for example from Amsterdam to Berlin) to save money, or if it's better to book accommodation.Also, would you recommend reserving seats in advance, or is it usually fine without reservations?Any advice or personal experiences would be really helpful. Hi guys! Would be interesting to make a collection of experiences with train cancellations, missed connections and being stranded etc and what solutions the companies provided. Ideally also with a year provided because experiences may change over time.  I will start with two recent experience: November 2025 (RENFE, Spain): I missed my AVE from Madrid to Montpellier because of a delay coming from Andalusia. At the help desk in Atocha they wanted to offer me a hotel free of charge and that I could use the same train the next day. But as I had to be at home in Austria the next evening, I asked if I could go to Barcelona and take the AVE to Lyon the next morning. They agreed, gave me a hand written seat reservation for the next AVE to Barcelona and said I should go there to the customer service.In Barcelona the staff was everything but friendly and said it’s two different companies blabla and that they can’t provide hotel. Hi! I have an interrail card via DiscoverEU/erasmus.  I booked a train ticket from Bruxelles-Midi to London St Pancras Intl for Tuesday, 16 June 2026 at 20:21-21:57. I reserved a seat with one of my free seat reservation credits. I got an email with my order confirmation and receipt, however I cannot open the PDF with the actual seat reservation QR Code/ticket. It just says that an error has occurred. I was wondering if there were anyway for me to fix this problem or get a new pdf? My order number is R2026101291

Hello everyone, I am very blessed and excited to visit this gorgeous continent!Originally I planned a 3 week vacation which is looking like a month+ long at this moment. The goal of my trip is for a possible relocation as things aren’t looking so good in California, I appreciate in advance any suggestions, shortcuts, foodie recs, stargazing spots, sunrises/sunsets (crazy, I’m used to only seeing the sunsets!). Is there a direct train from París to Berlín please ? I have reserved a place for a direct train from Berlin to Paris on 6th May but neither interrail, Deutsch Bahn or SNCF show such a train on their websites. I did catch a Paris to Berlin train direct a year ago. 

I’ll be travelling to Italy and Austria in a few weeks for a skiing trip. I’m flying in and out of Munich and taking trains to the towns and resorts where I plan to ski. Anyone have any tips for bringing skis with me or how to find the info I need?It sounds like each rail company has it’s own rules, but I’m struggling to find the companies names through the Eurail trip planner so I can research it. I’d like to bring my own skis but if the rules are too restrictive then I can rent at each of my stops instead.

Hi guys!Would be nice to have a collection of wrong (or missing) information on the Railplanner App.I will start:IC/IR/EC Switzerland<->Domodossola: The app says a reservation is required. Actually there is none required. Just if you continue to/from Domodossola from other Italian destinations, a reservation is needed…  EN (München/Zürich)-Salzburg-Budapest: The EuroCity part of this train is not shown in the app. With the EC carriages you can travel without a reservation between Salzburg and Budapest. For many EC/RJ trains between Budapest and Vienna it says that a reservation is required. That’s not true. Only for domestic trips INSIDE Hungary (e.g. Budapest-Györ) a reservation is required (which can be easily done on a ticket machine at the station or also online). For many trains on the Bludenz-Bregenz line it says “not in pass network” if they are coming from Schruns. This is due to Montafonerbahn being not part of the

I had the most unforgettable europe trip at the start of this year. I utilised the eurail pass which made travelling just that bit more special. The trains are something else and the efficacy makes it great! There is something special about being able to hop on a train in another country and being able to turn up to another one in 3 hours or more. I also got engaged in prague, and a little sotry about this is my partner organised everything without my knowledge and without this train pass the engagement would never of occurred! Thank you eurial for making my trip extraordinary, I will continue to use this in the future when travelling europe ❤️

I will be using my mobile for everything trip related but also like a book for browsing, before , during and after a trip.I see many of them, but is there one that balances practical train advice, city/destination info etc? When I look , many of them seem to be on the lines of ‘25 must do train journeys’ , which is not really what I want.Any pointers appreciated, thanks

I am planning a trip as a solo 60 year old in Jan 2026.1/24 - leave Chamonix early to travel to Interlocken OST. I want to take the Mont Blanc Express and golden pass express.1/25 - leave Interlocken for Montreux - Golden Pass Express preferred1/26 - Montreux to Gruyere and back by train1/27 - Leave Montreux  late morning to Paris, High speed train if availableWhat eurail pass should I get? Good day. I am 60 yrs old. My wife is 62. Son is 20. Daughter 25. We are vacationing in Vienna in early June. We want to travel within Austria,take a 2 day trip to Venice(we want to travel there overnight) and hopefully day trips to Prague and Budapest. We’re new to this. What do you recommend as the most convenient vs least expensive trains. Thank you
