Travelling by train

My favorite adventure was when I traveled through part of Western Europe with my Interrail pass. I left Hungary with a friend and on the first day in Austria we visited the city of Vienna. That evening we continued by train to Prague, Czech Republic. It was very exciting because the train was late and we almost missed our booked accommodation, but everything turned out great. We spent two beautiful days in Prague and then continued our journey to Berlin by train, which seemed like a very quick travel. Berlin was fascinating, but we could only stay for one night because our journey continued to Amsterdam. One of the most incredible experiences I had was “discovering” Amsterdam. Everyone was very friendly and kind. I went running in parks several mornings. After three days we boarded a train and arrived in Brussels. Unfortunately we didn't spend much time there, but we visited the main sights. We continued on to Paris that same day. Paris was heaven for me, I was complet

The most unforgettable trip I took was an Interrail trip with my two best friends, Alex and Roi. At the beginning of the summer, we got together and decided to embark on a 12-day adventure through six European countries. We left at the end of July from Brussels, where we started by visiting the city, its monuments, and the EU institutions. We also tried the typical dishes: mussels, fries, and, of course, Belgian chocolate.From there, we went to Amsterdam, which was only two hours away by train. It was my favorite city of the trip: beautiful, welcoming, and with an incredible atmosphere. We spent the days visiting museums and excursions to nearby towns using our Interrail pass.Our next destination was Frankfurt. The five-hour journey was very comfortable on a modern train, with landscapes that changed as we moved away from the coast. The city surprised us with how large and modern it is. When I look on other sites there are many ways to travel to my destinations that are in Germany and Austria. Do I just have to use the routes suggested by the travel planner?  If I opt for other routes can I use my Interrail pass on any train line in Holland, Belgium, Germany or Austria. What are the pitfalls of not going with the suggestions by the planner

Please as advice if getting a 7 day GP can be used to on eurostar I want to travel from London to France & Italy. Is a 7day pass going to be helpful. I want to travel to many cities in Italy but do not want to get  ocp as it doesn't cover all trains.From what I am reading reserving seats & using the pass seems very complicatedWhat's the best or recommended train to travel

The Rail Planner app frustrates me immensely when planning train journeys through Italy. I can barely plan anything. For example, I want to travel from Ravenna to Rimini. The planner says there's only one train per day to Rimini at 6:08 AM, with a seat reservation (€15). If I disable seat reservations, the planner claims it's not possible to travel from Ravenna to Rimini without a seat reservation. Yet, I know from a question I asked AI that there are 12 trains per day from Ravenna to Rimini for only €6 per trip!I assume you can travel on local trains in Italy with the Interrail Global Pass (7 travel days per month).My question: do you also use the Rail Planner app as a journey planner, or is it better to use a different app for trip planning? Good day fellow travellers.  I am Danie from South Africa.  I will be travelling in Europe for the first time since 2007. It is thus challenging but also exciting prospect since so much has changed since then. I hope you will indulge in all my concerns and questions. I will travel Europe and the UK in October extensively with a month long Global Eurail first class pass. I will probably create different numbered trips to keep things from getting out of hand. I am much looking forward to your advice and tips. Have a great one!

Good news, but Interrail doesn't tel about it on ther site. By buying a mobile-pass, travellers can get - depended in which country he/she lives - get more inbound/outbound days. For the Netherlands it handles about 3 days. Ideally for who want to go back to home in-between (marriage/funeral in the family, the need to take a mid-term look at how things are going at home and don't forget: very few employers give his employees continious time-off for 2-3 months.But I'm not 100% contant. I still wonder or Eurail-group realise that much people want to break up their long trip into 2-3 parts, to come return home in between to look for post, or something-else which would be necessary to do!), so all these people want to use more Inbound-.Outbound-options.Does EUrail-group already have talked with the European-Railway-countries about developing a construction which offers options, to buy extra inbound-/outbound-tokens for a small-price f.i. 15-20 Euros each day (dep

It would be great to connect with fellow adult Interrailers from across Europe! I’m 57 and starting my next journey from Kristiinankaupunki, a small coastal town in Finland. Back in 2019, I went on a six-week Interrail adventure. Last autumn, I shared a wonderful week-long trip with my daughter, exploring Rome, the Vatican, and the wine regions around Mainz. This coming spring, I’m planning to travel by Interrail again—this time for a work trip to southern France.

I’m planning a trip in September 2026 with my wife to Travisio in north east Italy in September 2026.  We would like to have two stops on the way there and also two on the way back.  We would be leaving from Lichfield in Staffordshire and travelling through London and leaving on a Thursday, ideally getting to Brussels for early afternoon on the first day then travelling onwards for a second night somewhere around halfway between Brussels and Travisio.  Then travelling onto Travisio on the third day, arriving in late afternoon.  Does that sound reasonable and any suggestions on routes and/or stopovers, please?  Also, could we do the trip with only one overnight stop, please, and so only have a four day pass in the month?  For the return journey, we would like to have the final night in Paris.  Any suggestions for routes and stopovers that that, please? I have 3 destinations [trips] planned in a single week, Frankfurt to Zurich, Zurich to Geneva, Geneva to Rome. My 1st leg is all set, but I can't seem to assign my pass to the 2nd or 3rd legs of the trip. Each leg is on a different day. Can you only assign/activate a pass one trip at a time ? Meaning: I need to wait till my 1st leg has been completed before assigning my pass to the 2nd leg, then repeat... Help, leaving Sept 01, 2025. First time using Eurial pass and it's cell app.

What is the best way to book when you need seat reservations? First book your seat reservation and afterwords the train trip in your app?I had first planned my trip , but when I wanted to make a seat reservation their was no place on that specific train. Then I take seat reservations on an other train. But I need to cancel my trip and started again. Is it better to do first the seat reservation and add the train to the app afterwards?

Hi there,Travelling to Europe via Eurostar so need to get to St Pancras from the west country in England. This invoves two train journeys to get to London and the same in the other direction on my return. Are these covered by my interail global pass? I need clarification asap so many thanks in advance!  

It's the first time I bought an interrail pass. Unfortunately for this weekend the reserved seats are already sold out, so I must choose the trains with non-reserved seats with more lay-overs. However, some lay-overs are just 6 or even 3 minutes. What if I miss one lay-over? Can I just take the next train with the Interrail pass without having to pay extra?

I finally understand the difference between trips and journeys, but I can't work out how to produce my ticket.

Hi everyone, Hope to find some answers here! At the moment I am Interrailing. I started my journey 23-07 and my pass is valid till 23-08.  I used 5/7 travel days and used 1/3 inbound/outbound. My current plan is:traveling from Lienz to Vienna on august 9th. I'll leave in the morning and arrive somewhere afternoon; take the night train from Vienna to the Netherlands. It departs around 8PM and arrives the 10th of august in the morning.Taking above info in considering: do I spent all my days with this plan? Or do I still have a day left since my night train in an inbound journey? I am asking this because I am thinking about leaving Lienz earlier and stay for another night in Salzburg, and from Salzburg traveling to Vienna and then take the Night train (since my reservation for the night train is already booked).thank you in advance! 

I have my day's journey setup, but I can't get my ticket generated.

Arribaríem al destí a les 20:30 aproximadament. Tenim un Aribnb reservat. És massa just el timing? Què us sembla? 

I'm trying reserve seats but it gives an error. What can I do about this?

Hi Community,I'm still totally blown away by the Interrail offer - I actually didn't know that this offer was also available for adults and families.Our children have wanted a vacation in Spain for a long time, but I'm incredibly scared of flying, so it hasn't been an option until now. Now the idea of traveling by train came up.The route would be from Frankfurt (Main)/Germany to Barcelona (Blanes), departing on October 3. Two days there, two days back (October 11), we could use the 4-day Global Pass for that, right?When I was a child, I traveled to Spain with my parents in a sleeping car - that doesn't exist anymore, does it? With children, an overnight train connection would of course be ideal.Has anyone done this trip before and is Interrail travel really as straightforward as it seems?That would be fantastic. An amazing journey along north of Spain - Spaniard living in Sweden myself 😜- from Irun to Vigo.  1- not posible to buy long distance trains before entering the country- only 72 h in advance by phone where you can get a reservation number that you will need to validate in person on a train station with customer service 2-. you need to understand the system itself: Cercanías where you don’t need a ticket and you may need to explain to some of the Renfe staff - not so far to any onboard staff- for this trains in some regions (Asturias, Cantabria, Barcelona, Valencia sand a few more) there’s an app, if not … Renfe.com Media Distancia MD or Regional (a kind of cost train lines that only show up in the Renfe web page and not in the app. For this one’s a Ticket is always needed and it is not explained in the interrail planner….!!!! long distance .- some AVLO trains do not accept interrail some reguional train lines (Euskotren in t

Hi! I have booked two “normal” seats on an SJ Euronight from Hamburg to Stockholm. The trip is in a few days and TODAY they informed be about the allowed sized of the baggage and the fact that it can only be stored above or below the seat. I think my baggage fills the criteria narrowly but I’m wondering if there is really going to be enough space. We are going to be in a “seating compartment” - does that mean a “box” with four or six seats? Does anyone have any experience about the baggage arrangements in SJ Euronight when you haven’t booked a cabin? Is there anything we can do, for example pay to get extra space for our luggage? (This is part of my return journey so at this point, I can’t really impact the size of my luggage..)
