Travelling to Italy from UK with 4 children!!

Hi,  We’re looking to travel to Italy/ Sicily Oct 2025 for 2 weeks. Our children will be 10,7,4&2. I would like to do some main tourist bits but would love to explore local towns / beaches, mozzarella and pizza and local food for the kids!  Does anyone know where to fly to begin our adventures. Also recommend any local towns and all the above? 👆we are on a budget, we want to do it as cheap as we can but also the best experience for the kids!  love to read your replies! 🩷

Italy By Train

Hello We are looking for some ideas for traveling thru Italy relying on Eurail system for transportation in Late September thru October 2024 We will be traveling for about (4) weeks, we are planning to land in Rome spending time there, then heading south along the Amalfi coast visiting different towns along the way, heading down the west coast to Sicily. And then spending a couple of weeks in Sicily traveling and visiting the island. Wanted to know the reliability of the trains, How convenient is this idea to getting around, how does the train system and public transportation work in the outlying city's and how does and which Eurail pass works when using between the (2) months of our travel for a (4)-week visitThanks Joe & Tina

Booking UK tickets to London St Pancras

We’ve struggled to create a workable journey from our home to London St Pancras.Repeated messages in Journey Planner indicated  - Sorry, no trains . . . .etc We were using the station title of ‘St Pancras International’ - but that station name only works for trains leaving the UK .. which I guess is International. For UK trains arriving into St Pancras, use ONLY London St Pancras. Logical but we’ve  always called it St P Int’l.Thanks to Mark, man@seat61.com for putting us right

Train is delayed, following trains cannot be reached

If in a connection with several trains that I have entered in the pass, one of the first trains is delayed and I do not catch the connecting trains, do I have to reschedule or will the missed trains be accepted? Greetings Gerhard

Travel by Train in Europe

Hi , May I ask if I can use the DB app to buy tickets for the purpose of travelling internationally in Europe. For example, go from Germany to Luxembourg or from Luxembourg to Belgium ? How do I buy tickets using the DB app ? Will I get a e-ticket with a QR code that I can show the inspector ?  Please help as I am new to using the DB app. Thank You. John

The Goldern Pass Line between Brienz and Luzern

Hello! I’m booking my trip with the Golden Pass Line in Switzerland. I want to go from Brienz to Luzern. But on the website of Golden Pass Line I can only see the route between Montreux and Interlaken. I see on somewhere online that the Zentralbahn between Interlaken and Luzern is one of the Golden Pass Line. However you cannot enter the train in Brienz. I also see an Interlaken-Luzern Express which you can enter in Brienz. Do someone know which one is the correct one?

Train and Ferry transfer in Denmark and Norway including fjord.

Hello everyone!  I’m from Japan and would like to get your advice for my first trip to North Europe!I’m seeking your advice for transportation especially in Denmark and Norway.  Here are my basic plans for now.  My travel is in June 2024 and about 15 days and thiking to get eurail scandinavia pass for 4 or 5 days. 1. Start from Copenhagen to Hirtshals by train, 2. Hirtshals to Bergen by Ferry, 3. Bergen to Flam by train, 4. Flam to Oslo by train, 5. Oslo to Stockholm by train and 6. Stockholm to Helsinki by Ferry.My question is regarding 2,3,and 4 above around fjord.  I heard that there is a tour ticket called nutshell but my travel plan is one way from Bergen to Oslo and I’m not sure if my plan is fit to the nutshell.  So does anybody have advice for my trip between Bergen to Oslo and what is the best way to tranport?  and also any advise how many days I should spend during this transport from Bergen to Oslo (one night stay in Flam necesarry)? I’m looking forward to getting many ideas

Finland rail travel in December.

Hi fellow Travellers! I want to bring my daughter to Finland for Christmas and I’m wondering when the timetable for Finland to Rovaniemi will be available? I’ve been looking at flights, but they all get in at ridicules times. Please help me out, as I am coming from Australia and want to make this Christmas perfect for my little one.I also want to hurry up and buy the accommodation but am yet to know how best to get there. So far my Europe trip is - From London train to Paris train to Amsterdam - fly Finland and train up and back to Rovaniemi then fly back from Helsinki to London.Thanks All, Cara

Adding journeys to an active travel day while travelling

Hi,I have only used paper passes before, but this summer I will use the mobile pass. When using the mobile pass, I have to add journeys to my pass to activate a travel day and make the journey appear on the ticket of that travel day.My question is; do I have to add all the journeys of single a travel day before I activate and start that travel day, or can I continue to add journeys to that same travel day when I’m on the move and when that travel day has already started?Let’s say that I start a travel day by taking the morning train from Berlin to Munich. The plan is, then, to spend a few hours in Munich, before I continue to Salzburg. All in one travel day. As I start that trip, and as I arrive in Munich, I still don’t know for how many hours I will stay before I continue my trip. So, regarding the mobile pass, I want to add the journey from Berlin to Munich, activate the travel day and make that trip. Then, when I feel that I have had enough of Munich, I want to add the next journey

Germany-Switzerland train plans

Trying to plan with rail seeming the best option.   Arriving in Munich, then to Bayreuth for Wagner festival.Next to St. Moritz.  It seems there are several changes required and I will likely have one large suitcase and something else.   I have a hanging bag which would be ideal for my dress clothing, but fear it might be difficult to navigate the changes so am considering a decent sized back pack.  I will likely practice pack  and adjust what I take.The friends I am meeting in St Moritz say the hotel will drive us to the station and help us get on the train to ZUR and they claim 2d class is fine.OK, I have taken trains before to and from Bayreuth and we always took 1st and it was still difficult to find space for luggage.Any ideas for how I can best navigate this trip or have I boxed myself in?  I could rent a car to go Bayreuth-St Moritz or even hire a car and driver, but both are quite expensive.   I am old but pretty fit(at least no disabilities) but changing trains always involves

Roobed on a night train From Dresden to bratislava

I was travelling last night in EN 40457 from Dresden to bratislava. I was robbed in the train. My bag was pulled off broke the bag zip took off my phone and cash and went off. How is this possible? Like is this so easy in the trains? You don't have any such security maintained? Moreover there was no one in the coach to help me no police no focal person of the coach. Please help me what should I do?

unable to book Ljubljana Triest on Interrail app

I am trying to book outward trip on 09/05/2024 from Ljubljana to Trieste on EC134 out Ljubljana 14.25 - arrival Trieste 17.16. It is the fastest direct connection, but can not be booked through the Interrail app. How do I travel on this route?

X-ray at night trains from Paris Austerlitz?

This summer I will travel from Paris (Austerlitz) to Pau with SNCF’s night train. I have just read this article about the French “Intercités de Nuit”: https://www.raileurope.com/en/trains/intercites-de-nuitIt says that there is an X-ray check at the station i Paris (I assume that is the Austerlitz station) and that passengers are advised to arrive at the station at least 30 min. before departure.I can not find anything about X-ray checks at Austerlitz anywhere else than this Raileurope article. The only time I have heard about X-ray at train stations is for Eurostar trains and Spanish trains. There might also be an X-ray machine by the luggage storage, but that is another thing. Can anyone confirm or refute that there will be an X-ray check at Austerlitz station for night train departures? My issue is that I will bring a backpack with camping equipment (for hiking in the Pyrenees), that may or may not give me some trouble. But the article does not mention what they are checking for.Pal

Trains from Dublin to Paris

This will be my first time traveling to France from Canada. Wanting to avoid flying with Boeing at this time, I am exploring other ways to approach my destination of Paris. One flight route could land us in Dublin. Is it viable for 2 active Seniors to take the train(s) from Dublin to England, through the Chunnel to Paris?

Hi! I’ve been travelling in Austria and Slovenia - and been a bit confused as to which rail company is running the trains I’ve travelled on - does any one know if there an app or website to help?e.g IC793 - is this Slovenian or Austrian?RE79036? Would appreciate having this kind of info at hand as it would help when planning….

Hey, me and a group of 18 others are planning a trip to Slovenia from Brussels. We were thinking of using interrail but still aren't sure if it is the cheapest option. We would like to use the national train and bus system as well and maybe even venture out to Croatia. Anyone has experience with this?Thank-you

Leman Express L1 services missing in app?

I’m looking to take the Leman Express service L1 from Annemasse to Geneva at 10:05 on 6th April but this is not appearing in the search in the app. It appears some other L1 line services are also missing. Is there a reason for this? If I catch this train I can’t add it to my mobile pass in the app so what if I get a ticket check?

bonjournous sommes une famille de 3 et recherchons à aller à Venise en train de nuit depuis Vienne. Avec le pass interail c’est 200€ par personne. ça me parait excessif ! Nous avons déjà fait des trains de nuits en Europe et même en 1ère classe, ça ne dépasse jamais 40€ par personne.Est ce quelqu’un a une expérience de ce voyage ?

Eurail vs Swiss Half Fare

Hi,I’m going to Switzerland and Italy with my family (2 adults, 2 youths), and am having a hard time figuring out if it’s worth buying a Eurail or Swiss Half Fare or both...here’s my itinerary…May 6 - Land in MunichMay 8 - Munich to LuzernMay 9 - Luzern to Interlaken to Wengen (stay 3 days and travel Jungfraujoch and several other local trains/gondolas)May 12 - Wengen to Zermatt (2 days)May 14 - Zermatt to Milan (1 day)May 15 - Milan to Como to Menaggio (3 days)May 18 - Menaggio to Como (2 days)May 20 - Como to Milan MXP  (1 day then fly home)Does it make sense to buy Eurail Global 4 days for the Munich to Luzern, and then the Zermatt to Como, Como to Menaggio, Menaggio to Como, Como to Milan, and use a Swiss Pass when in Switzerland?It wasn’t clear to me if Eurail gets me anything other than the major routes and a 25% discount on Jungfraujoch.Also, Swiss full pass vs half fare?Any other advice would be welcomed as well!

Medium size dog on Interrail journey. Which countries are best for traveling with a pet?

We are a couple that are planning to do a trip around Europe with our puppy, even if he is a young puppy, he will not be able to travel as a "luggage" due to size. Are there any countries we should avoid? Which countries are best for traveling with a pet? We dont mind paying, we just want it to be as hassle free as possible.

Things lost during travel

Hi allWoild anyone know if there is a “lost & found” contact (email) for the Italian rail company which I can approach for help. I lost my Apple AirPod Pro on 26 February. I think I must have misplaced it around Tirano. The last time I used the AirPod was during travel on Bernina Express on the day.  I only realized tthat I lost it today when I have flown out of Italy already. We travelled on Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano on 26 February.   On the same say, from Tirano we travelled to Milan on a train that departed on around 1:40 pm (it was supposed to leave around 1:08pm but got delayed)

Multiple trains

I have several train journeys planned in June and July, through Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech republic.Most of the trips which include train changes, are shown on the journey planner, can I assume one ticket for these. I have had to add some manually, one especially involves 4 trains. Do I have to add each train separately, so they can be activated on the day

This is the email I got from SJ regarding Stockholm - Narvik train: Traffic stop VassijaureThere has been a traffic stop in Vassijaure since December due to another operator derailing at the site. This has meant that it has not been possible to operate the route Abisko Östra-Narvik by train. The restoration work has dragged on. The Swedish Transport Administration's latest forecast is that the track will not open for passenger traffic on the section Abisko Östra/Björkliden-Narvik until the last week of May. There will be a limited range of traffic on the stretch Abisko Östra/Björkliden-Narvik during the mentioned period. We have a recurring dialogue with the Swedish Transport Administration about the condition of the track and update if the information changes. Switzerland to Italy - 2days

Hi Team,Am from India staying in Zurich,Switzerland, and have Resident permit.Planning to travel to Italy by train - To Milan, Bologna, Venice and Florence on March 30th and 31st.1. Should I take Euro rail pass or Inter rail? 2. Will the trains be operational on those two days, as its Easter eve?3. Should I take one country pass or Global pass?    3.1 If I take Global pass, i need not take separate ticket in-bound and out-bound from Italy?4. Is reservations required?5. Can I board any train at anytime with the rail pass?Also Please share an app/website to check the price to travel within Italy, like SBB.Is there any day pass which could be utilised for a zone/town visit via other means of transport like bus or tram/ ferry.Thank you.
