When you first imagine who would drive their trains on the left you would expect it to be the same as on the roads, but it’s more surprising than that https://brilliantmaps.com/left-hand-vs-right-hand-traffic-raillways/ Apparently this map is not quite correct, Alsace and North of Lorraine are similar to German lines

It's indeed interesting but there are some exceptions. In Spain, on the Madrid-Hendaye railway and its branch lines (including the main lines into Asturias for instance) trains drive on the left for historical reasons too.
