1st Trip to Plan

Hi all, I’m just entering my planned excursion.

The very first thing I put in my trip plan is a train from Tiverton in Devon to London St Pancras Int.

Even though I know that there’s a train at 21.11 that gets in at 00.39 the trip planner on both the App & website sends me on a 22hr trip including going to the Netherlands to get a ferry back!!!!

How do I get it to register the train that I actually want to take.

Can I use my pass to book it away from the site?

Cheers for any help

It’s a common mistake, don’t worry! St Pancras International is just for the international (Eurostar) part of the station, so the planner will send you round the houses to get there.

Try London St Pancras, or just London.

Here’s a good guide to booking reservations.

Also, just to point out (you may already know this) that if you travel Tiverton to London on Day 1, and take a Eurostar on Day 2, you’ve used up both of your Inbound/ Outbound days. You won’t be able to use your pass again to travel on a return journey back to or within the UK.

That’s great info, thank you.

I didn’t know that but - had been told the pass wouldn’t work for Eurostar - so had planned the cheapest onward train (To Bruges), anyway.

Thanks again. 👍

It’s valid on Eurostar, but you have to pay a passholder fare of €35. Often the cheapest cash Eurostar tickets are in that ballpark anyway.

The pass has always been valid on Eurostar, so I wonder where that came from.

Tiverton Parkway is linked by direct trains to London Paddington, so if your primary requirement is to get from Tiverton to London then you should plan your trip based on those two stations.

You can easily get from Paddington to St Pancras/Kings Cross either by tube (not covered by the pass), or you can (on the pass) get the Elizabeth line to Farringdon and Thameslink to Kings Cross.  I’ve done that loads of times.

However, the 21:11 train (which gets in at 23:59, not 00:59) will deposit you in London at a time when there are no onward Eurostars, so if you are also trying to get to the rest of Europe you are going to be hanging around London for a couple of hours in the early morning.

And/however/but . . . if you have a 5 days in a month type of pass (rather than an entire 30 day pass) then the fact that you get in to London at 23:59 and can only get your next train the next day (even a minute change will put you at 00:00, which is a new day) is the worst possible combination.

What are your main constraints?  Can’t leave Tiverton before a certain time?  Must be in Bruge by a certain time?  If you outline that people can give you some suggestions.
