6 Week Trip Through Estern Europe

Hello everyone, 

from the beginning of november till christmas I want to travel thorough eastern europe and am thinking about doing a stop in istanbul and athens as well. 

For some of the stops that I want to take I can’t find a connection, not on google and not in the railway app. Do you have advice on how to find a connection? I saw that you can take busses as well?

International connections are very bad in Eastern Europe/Balkans. Most countries don't have any link, either due to year long "engineering works" or simply political tensions.

The most useful train for you would be the daily Istanbul - Sofia night train. Then take a bus to Thessaloniki/Athens.

Buses are not included in Interrail/Eurail. No discount either.

I must also add that the weather is pretty horrible at that time of year... no snow, only cold, constant fog and grey skies.
