Hi,

We are looking to begin interrailing on the 4th July in Bucharest making our way through the Balkans to arrive at Slovenia.

Ideally (open to alterations) we would take this route:

Bucharest - Sofia

Sofia - Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki - Belgrade (we are under the assumption that there is a direct night train for this route but not certain)

The information does not seem to be readily available regarding these routes and are curious to find out whether there are any trains available completing these routes this summer?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

We are looking to begin interrailing on the 4th July in Bucharest making our way through the Balkans to arrive at Slovenia.

Ideally (open to alterations) we would take this route:

Bucharest - Sofia

One direct train via Ruse per day.

Sofia - Thessaloniki
Since Covid no connection in service
The daily daytrain was replaced by a Bus across the border
Only the weekly Nighttrain Bucharest - Sofia really went to Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki - Belgrade (we are under the assumption that there is a direct night train for this route but not certain)
Since Covid no connection (was replaced by a bus anyway between Thessaloniki and the border of North Macedonia)

The information does not seem to be readily available regarding these routes and are curious to find out whether there are any trains available completing these routes this summer?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I wrote the answers in read directly under the questions.

The currently ONLY feasible route all by train is from TR (overnight from IST-sumemr only) - BG - RO -HU and onward. All the cointries of old Yugoslavija have no more trains over borders, except those 2 in EU ; Slovenija and Croatia
