Eurail timetable in January 2026

I am traveling with my family (2a, 2c) for two weeks in Jan 2026 and wish to travel exclusively by trains, Austria to France via Italy and Switzerland. However, for the last few months when I search the online timetables, the Eurail site returns with a message saying the timetable is not yet available. My concern is that is less then 6 months from now, and I wish to book accommodation based on the trains we catch, and the dates.

How far in advance are timetables released? And if they are not released until closer to the month, how do I plan the itinerary without it?

Thank you.

First of all, Eurail is not an operator and there is no "Eurail timetable”.

Second, all operators have different booking horizons and also publish timetables on different moments.

Third, the annual timetable change is on the Sunday after the 2nd Saturday in December. Timetables will become available between September and November. Eurostar have already published timetables but most others haven’t. Most will publish the new timetable mid-October.

Don't use the Eurail website or the Rail Planner app though to plan. They're not reliable enough for that purpose. Also, going by previous years, they will only include the new timetables a few weeks in advance, i.e. end of November.

Timetables are best checked on the operators' own websites/apps; for international journeys, bahn.de or the DB Navigator app is a good choice.

@Debstar

Timetables will be the same in January, with minor changes. You can plan your trip with the actual schedules. Unexpected changes are more problematic (engineering works, strikes, bad weather). If possible choose accommodation that can be cancelled.
