Some of my Favorite Technical Museum that i visited so far:
As i already posted about some of the train museums i visited in Europe.
(https://community.eurail.com/routes-destinations-42/cool-train-museums-in-europe-21038?tid=21038&fid=42) I now want to post about some other great technical musemums (Some of which also include trains)
Germany:
Technikmuseum Speyer:
This is one of my favorite technical Museum. Compared to Sinsheim its less about a cars and more about planes, trains, and other stuff. It has the Russian Space Shuttle Buran, a submarine (U9) you can go inside (Sinsheim also recently got a submarine) a big Antonov An-22 Cargo plane, a Boeing 747. The Museum also an IMAx dome cinema (absolutly worth it if you understand German, still impressive otherwise)
Technikmuseum Sinsheim:
More focused on cars but then Speyer, but also trains and planes. Can be combined with a visit to Speyer Speyer. The highlights of the Museum include a submarine (U17) an Concorde aircraft ant the Russian supersonic passenger aircraft Tupolev Tu-144.
The „Deutsches Museum“ in Munich is a pretty big technical museum, although part of it is closed due to construction till 2028 (still enough is open for a great visit)
This museum has some great exhibitions and experiments.
Deutsches Technik Museum Berlin Can also recommend this Museum in Berlin, broad range of things. (I visted this one during the Berlin museums night)
Technoseum Mannheim I visited this Museum on one of the few days with free entry as i live close to it. But it is worth its price. Offers quite a few experiments for kids. And you can spend a few hours here.
In General Speyer and Sinsheim are at the top of my list because they have some impressive big things like submarines, planes, boats and a space shutte (Buran). Good weather is usefull as some stuff is outside (like the Boeing 747, the submarines ...)
Switzerland:
Verkehrshaus Luzern Fantastic Museum. Quite expensive but you can spen atleast half a day there. Lots of Stuff for kids outside.
Poland:
Gdansk has a ton ship related museums aswell as a world war 2 museum. (on certain days entrance is free, but its pretty affordable anyway). There is also a museum ship you can get on. Great city for a visit. (You can also take an overnight ferry from there towards Stockholm, which is what i did on my last trip).
Warsaw also has a nice technical museum. Worth a visit even if you dont understand polish.
I have not visited much of poland so far.
France:
musée des Arts et Métiers Paris Great technical museum, free entrance fo people under 26 from the EU and an interesting building. Also less busy the other stuff in Paris. Less big stuff but a great exhibitions.
Austria:
The technical museum in Vienna is also a good option.
I can recommend the high voltage show. I visited this one during the Vienna Museum night. So i di not have as much time there as it was the last museum i visited that night and i had to get on the last bus of the day.
Italy:
The technical Museum in Milano was also interesting. Maybe check it out if you happen to travel through Milano. (Happens a lot if you travel from Switzerland to Italy)
There is also a great technical museum in Prague and in Zagreb. Also in addition to technical Museum Prague also has huge aircraft Museum with free entrance. But i keep remebering more as i write this. Maybe i will post these in more detail as a comment later
As always i am happy to hear about more places i could check out on my next travels.
