Hi, I am planning a trip for next year and wondered wether it’s worth using the pass as much as possible or to take your time travelling and exploring each place, or is it just personal preference?

It all depends on your personal preference. The pass gives you immense flexibility.
Some use it do just randomly hop on the first train they can find and see where it brings them. Then they get off when a location looks appealing to them.
Some train lovers want to do as many trains as they want.
Other people use it as a cost effective way to travel a long way sustainably.
But you have also quite a selection of different passes. Flexible passes have a certain number of travel days, during a period. There are continuous pases being valid for a long consecutive period.
Many options, all depending on how you like to travel!

What are you currently looking at, in your planning?
Looking at getting the pass that’s valid for any train for 22 days and just seeing as many places as possible but not sure if it’d be better to spend more nights in less places as opposed to 1 or 2 nights.
+8It’s perfectly possible to use a place as fall-out base for day trips. If you choose your accomodation wisely, relatively close to a station with good connections, it’s a nice idea to do day trips that are max 1,5-2h away from the place you’re staying.
That’s a good idea I’d not thought of have a different fall out place for each week and travel that but of Europe.
+8Yeah, e.g. in Belgium if you stay in Brussels you can visit almost the entire country without having to move from accomodation to accomodation. Utrecht is also a nice hub for the Netherlands for example.

York for UK
Freiburg for Black Forest and Swizerland
The choices are endless for bases for day tripping.
