Hi, I’m Amelia. I’m going to travel to the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy and Austria, probably in September. I’d love to learn about less known places, cities, events or foods that are worth a try. If you live in one of these countries, please give me some ideas for my trip. If there is anything specific I should know about traveling by train in these countries, I’d love to know too. :)

Ask recommendations, and you’ll get as many different as there are people.

Some tips for Belgium, I’lld recommmend visiting slightly less famous cities. Skip Bruges, and e.g. visit Ghent. Or do a day trip in Mechelen.

If you visit Brussels, try to get off the beaten path away from the Centre and the touristic zone (although there are some very nice museums there), and try neighbourhoods like St. Gilles, Etterbeek, Elsene/Ixelles,… Try the big parks on the east side of the Brussels region (best done by doing parts of this walk e.g. https://environnement.brussels/citoyen/lenvironnement-bruxelles/sevader-en-ville/la-promenade-verte-visitez-bruxelles-pied-ou-velo and try especialy the Walks around Woluwe, Oudergem, Watermaal-Boitsfort,…, the east side is very green and wood-like).

Another nice thing to do off the beaten track, is to combine the train with a walk. If you like these kinds of things of course. The NMBS/SNCB (Belgian rail) has plenty of recommendations: https://www.belgiantrain.be/en/leisure/b-excursions/more/green-stops/by-foot-green-stops

You’ll see the country differently than 99,5% of all other tourists ;)
