Hi. I am trying to follow one of the suggested routes in Europe by Rail. I can’t find any timetable information on the ligne de Cevennes from Clermont to Nimes. The book warns there is often engineering work on the line. How can I find out? ( travel end of March)

When do you want to do this route exactly?

Best consult a reliable travel planner, like Deutsche Bahn. Click open the extended options of the planner, and add some stations with the “via” options. Like Brioude, Langeac, Chapeauroux, Villefort, Alès,… It might show you some options. Set the time needed for change to 0:00.

If there’s a bus somewhere along the route, it probably means there are works going on.

The route planner of SNCF mostly sends you towards the TGV;

Or consult the TER website of the region(s): https://www.ter.sncf.com/occitanie/se-deplacer/travaux-ligne-cevennes. Or the one of Auvergne Rhone-Alpes. Only in French though.

Edit: OR SNCF Réseau: https://www.sncf-reseau.com/fr/entreprise/newsroom/actualite/cartes-principaux-chantiers-ferroviaires-en-2023

Works are planned (in the Occitanie region) on:

  • 18/02 to 5/03 2023
  • 22 april to 7/05 2023
  • 21/10 to 5/11

Seems you’re good for late March. But always check on some planners mentioned before!

Here's the direct link for the end of March timetable:

As you may see, there are no trains running the whole way end of March. Need to take a bus on part of the route at least.
