naples to Paris over 2 days

I had been planning trip from Naples to Paris in a single day on 20 May, one night hotel in Paris before returning to UK on 21 May.

However, Naples to Paris is to be over 2 days.  I had thought overnight in Mulhouse, because its small so should be easier for accommodation near the station.  A commenter has put me off staying there.

My requirements are this: an easy trip on day 2 so can grab a good few hours in Paris.  A place that is safe, cheap and easily accessible to the train station for an early start on day 2 to Paris.  Low reservations.  And preferably beautifully scenic.

That is the ideal, asking a lot, but prepared to compromise.  Also happy to have longer connections in interesting stations .

Any ideas and plans would be gratefully accepted.

Thank you

Low reservation fees mean going via Milan & Basel.

Cheap accommodation means not staying in Switzerland, so you need to stay in northern Italy, or somewhere in France.

Italy is out if you want a short trip on Day 2.

Strasbourg probably fits the bill. Nice city, 10 minutes walk from the station. Only a couple of hours to travel on Day 2, but a long day on Day 1.

Basel or Bern would also work, if you can find cheap accommodation. Bern’s lovely. Shorter journey on Day 1, longer on Day 2.

Another option is Naples to Nice on Day 1, then take the sleeper to Paris.

Colmar is also nice. If you like an early start, there's a direct TGV to Paris at 6:38 with reservations still for €10.
