Hello everyone! I am currently planning an interrail trip for my family (2 adults and a then 9 year old and 4 year old) for next summer. We will have maximum of 23 days leave to travel.
I originally looked at a global pass but I think given the age of my youngest a slower travel pace may be more preferable - we are currently considering a 3 or 4 day pass in Germany including a week in the south with a hire car to do some gentle hikes.
One of the things my kids are obsessed with at the moment (aren’t we all?) is night trains and I was hoping to let them experience one for the first time. I’m trying to understand from the language used on the site if I can use the fourth travel day for a night train out of Germany (would be well within the 1 month as only have 23 days to travel). I was looking at either Munich to Rome, Stuttgart to Venice, Hamburg to Vienna, Berlin to Vienna or Berlin to Paris. If breakfast is served as well I think that would make it even more exciting for them - any recommendations or experiences welcome.
I’m also iffy on whether the one country pass will offer value for money so will calculate all ticket costs individually. To get the global for us would be £50 total extra over the one country pass and we could travel from Scotland to Germany on it, although might be hard to do in one day (plus I think its about £106 extra in Eurostar seat reservations for us). I think we will likely end up flying home.
P.S. I am not worried about them sleeping poorly on the train as both have been running on extended blinking since 2024, we will try get a private compartment so as not to disturb others.
Extra info - working with the 9 year old and some global atlases, she identified Berlin, Fussen and Innsbruck (Austria but day trip/overnight doable by car it seems) as places she thinks looks really interesting. Paris too but that is largely because of the Jardin d’Acclimitation - if anybody knows of similar traditional amusement parks please let me know (think merry-go-rounds more than roller coasters). My partner has a strong preference for Berlin and I have a strong preference for Hamburg (my 3 year old mostly just wants to pick her nose at the moment but I think she would enjoy Minatur Wunderland in Hamburg, anywhere with a fairytale look to it or that has a ball/marble run). Any recommendations for playparks or otherwise also welcome.
