Paris to St Moritz route help

It is our first time travelling through Europe (2 adults and an 8 year old) via train and we are going from Paris to St Moritz on Saturday 5th April. Our two options are the 7:22 via Zurich to arrive at 15:07 or the 8:27 via Mulhouse ville and Basel to arrive at 17:07.

The second option has 3 changes and is a little longer but also cheaper and a more sociable departure time! The cost is not a huge factor in this but I have read the Paris - Zurich train is a beautiful route.

Which route would you recommend and are we asking for more potential issues by having 3 stops rather than 2.

In my opinion, the Paris - (Mulhouse - Basel) - Zurich train isn’t particularly a beautiful route. The fact which makes this route interesting (at least for me) is that you run with up to 320 km/h through large parts of France :).

The two suggested itineraries have an identical route as the direct Basel - Zurich TGV runs through Basel and the direct train between Basel and Chur run on the same tracks the TGV uses between Basel and Zurich.

The most scenic part of your trip starts at Zurich, where you can get nice views on the lakes and mountains. The line from Chur to St Moritz is even more stunning!

Changes in Switzerland are not an issue, they’re made to work.

I’lld go for option two, the direct TGV’s are a bit too expensive for what they offer (and the option with more changes follows +/- the same route, not particularly beautiful).

Even if you would miss a connection, e.g. in Mulhouse or anywhere else in Switzerland, there’s plenty of trains so you’ll never wait to long to get to St. Moritz.
