Hoping to take the Bernini Express to Tirano next summer (26). Heard there’s not much there, so was wondering if it’d be an idea to then get a train to a smaller town on Lake Lecco/ Como. We have 2 children (9 & 10) and limited budget!
Has anyone visited Bellano, Lierna, Lariania, Lecco or any other suggestions?
From there we’d hope to travel to Milan to catch eu sleeper to Amsterdam.

+8You can pick somewhere along the line to Milano. I stopped in Varenna, which was very pretty, and you can get a boat to Bellagio from there very reasonably.
Are you planning on staying overnight, or just stopping off? If the former, from my previous planning, I would guess the key thing is to find suitable (and cheap!) accommodation, first.
Bear in mind that there has been track work along this line for the last few summers, meaning you need a bus replacement for part of it. I don’t think that has been announced for 2026 yet, so you might want to wait in case that changes your plans. (You’l be waiting anyway for the European Sleeper to go on sale, I guess)
