Is it possible to buy a sleeping car compartiment ticket on SJ from Hamburg to Stockholm? Indeed it seems is quite challenging to get space. Any feedback from users?

Yes, that is possible. If you give some more details about the reservation you want to make you will get a better answer.
On same route is also another company; Snälltaget, runs ev. 2nd day-also accepts passes, but with fairly high extra suplmt to pay. Google will lead you to their sites with info.

During parts of the year, mainly the summer, Snälltåget runs a night train from Stockholm to Berlin via Hamburg every day.
During the rest of the year Snälltåget runs special trains. Right now they run weekly trains from Stockholm to the Austrian Alps.
