Hi Community!

I am traveling to switzerland and booked hotel near Interlaken west. I am aware that most departures are from interlaken OST so I will be getting Interlaken guest to make my commute easier.

I have a confusion and hope that you all will try to address it.

I am not purchasing any kind of jungfraujoch pass since I am purchasing Eurail pass so will be buying individual tickets for top of the europe and Gridenlwald first at discounts available for pass holders.

My Question is:

  1. Travel to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe:

I am seeing the tickets on the website are they are as follows:

https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfraujoch-top-of-europe/buy-jungfraujoch-ticket/

I am not sure which location should I choose? Although price are same if I choose EURAIL pass i.e. 147.8 CHF. Should I need add journey in my Eurail pass as well for any of the location in the above route while traveling from Interlaken OST?

  1. Travel to Gridenlwald first:

I am seeing the tickets on the website are they are as follows:

https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/grindelwaldfirst/

Same case here. There are two location to choose. Although the price are same for the EURAIL pass holder. But I am not sure which location to choose. Also will I need to add journey in my EURAIL while traveling from Interlaken OST?

  1. Using boats on Lake thun and Brienz:

Can you please also tell me how to use boats on these lakes?

All trains where you use the pass as your ticket need to be entered as journeys in the Railplanner-app. Just before boarding the train you activate the journey to get the QR code which is your ticket.

If you only use your pass to get a discount, like if you go to Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn, you should not activate a journey.

In Switzerland no reservation are needed except for the panoramic coaches on the Berninaexpress and on the Glacierexpress. But both the Bernina route and the Glacierexpress route can be made reservation free with regional trains.

Make sure to check the weather forecast before you buy any tickets for the Jungfraujoch. If the weather is bad, going there is an even more wast of money than it usually is.

If the weather is nice I personally recommend you to go to Schilthorn instead. It is less pricy and you have the 360 degree turning restaurant with a fantastic view of the Jungfraujoch.

There are frequent trains between Interlaken Ost and Interlaken West. You should also get a guest card from the hotel that allows you to travel on the local bus for free.

Thank you for the suggestion.

What about the ticket selection? Which location should I choose and in the above and do I need to add journey as well in EURAIL app?

So what I understood from your answer is that if I purchase discounted ticket such as for Top of the europe from Interlaken OST, then I don’t need to add any kind of journey in my Rail planned app?

Is my understanding correct?

Yes, that's correct from my knowledge. @rvdborgt Am I correct? What is the latest news from the JungfrauBahnen on this matter?

The Jungfraubahnen have been adhering to the conditions of use since a few months.

From Interlaken Ost to Wengen though, the trains are included in the pass. It's only from there that you need a discounted ticket.
