My family and I are arriving in Nice on the night train from Paris in late July. We then wish to travel to Rome. What is the best way to do this? Ideally we would visit Florence on the way. Or, take another night train from somewhere? Thank you

Local TER train to Ventimiglia, then a few options by regional, Intercity or Freccia along the coast (Genoa > La Spezia > Pisa > Florence) depending on the time of day and whether you want to pay a reservation fee.

Florence to Rome is best by Frecciarossa, ā‚¬13 fee.

Thank you so much for your reply, very swift and very helpful. I think Iā€™m getting there! Logistical minefield but will all be worth it in the end! šŸ˜

Oh, and another tip would be that timetables for July might not be loaded yet. Check for next week instead, and assume times will be the same.
