Can I make reservations even if the planner says none required?

How can I make a reservation when the planner (online with "book reservations") says that a reservation is not required? I want ensure we have seats and am willing to pay the reservation fees. We want to travel on an EC thru Germany and Switzerland and then Regional train from Switzerland to France.

Thanks - I am reserving thru Deutsche Bahn for part of the journey.  Will look into the swiss rail for rest.

Booking reservations for trains in Switzerland is a waste of money, unless you book them together with the German ones, since DB only charge once fee per journey (€4.50 in 2nd; €5.90 in 1st class), regardless of the number of trains in the journey.

Regionaltrains often can´t be reserved

Eurocity usually yes :) Bestway to reserve is directly with the Railcompanies much cheaper as with Interrail/Eurail :)
