Trying to book 1st class seat reservation for ICE train from Hannover, Germany to Vienna, Austria on June 10 but it says there are none available. However, if I go into the Deutschebahn app it still shows 1st class tickets available for purchase. Why can I not book first class seat reservations? I have a 15 day eurail pass and just want to book a seat reservation only. I can’t do this through Eurial or RailEurope. They all show no reservations, but yet tickets are definitely available for purchase in 1st class… Does this also mean I will have no place to sit on the trip in 1st class?

It doesn't mean that all seats are occupied. It just means that there isn't a specific seat available all the way from Hannover to Vienna. Seats can still be available for part of the journey, and certain seats can't be reserved at all (the BahnBonus seats in carriage 28 (1st class) and 27 (2nd class)).

DB indeed shows me a full direct train on June 10th. Only a few seats in 2nd class left. But as reservations are optional on German trains, they still sell normal tickets without a reservation.

Either choose another connection with a change or reserve a second class seat.

If I would reserve 2nd class seats that are available right now, but some 1st class seats should become available between now and then, could I switch my reservation to those? Or reserve those 1st class ones that might become available? Also what would I need to sit inthe Bahnbonus seats in carriage 28?

You don't need anything to sit in the BahnBonus seats. In Germany, it might happen that someone with gold/platinum status turns up and claims the seat, but that's rare.
