Looking at booking Nightjet Ams -- Vienna in Feb. 3 travellers.
A private couchette seems to be 199e without the pass and the same price using the pass. Am I mistaken or does the Nightjet offer make the use of one day of the travel pass obsolete?

Yes, because you want a private cabin (and there you have to pay full price?), wich you pay with a pass 137€ on top of 3x 14€ reservation cost. If you book a couchette with other people, you pay 34€/person.
If you want compartment, I would look if it is cheaper to take a sleeper cabin wich has only 3 places. There you pay 74€/person.
