For some reason I am unable to do a bike reservation for trains crossing the Alps. For example EC67 from Bazel SBB to Milano.  DB (also app)  say that price is unknown. With Trenitalia it is not possible to reserve for a bike without a personal ticket.

Any experience in this? How to communicate with Trenitalia (I already did) that I do not need an additional personal ticket. Btw, does the 3,5 euro ticket one can buy with a Trenitalia ticket guarantee a place on the train for by bike?

Many thanks for your time!

Bike tickets for these ECs are available at SBB ticket counters AFAIK. In Italy and Germany I guess too. Not available online.

Otherwise look at alternatives like the easy route via the Gotthard:

- 14 CHF bike day pass

- 2 CHF bike reservation for Basel/Zurich - Lugano IC

And then RE to Milan. No idea how it after Chiasso the border.

You can find informations about Trenord (Regional trains in North Italy) here:

I decided to book the train through Trenitalia. So I have a seat (46 euro) and a guaranteed place for my bike (12 euro). Now I will try to get a refund from Trenitalia as I have an interrail card.

Good luck!
