Booking seat reservations on OEBB

I wanted to ask anyone that has booked seats using OEBB. Usually on other timings they provide a seat reservation as I checked but for this one there isn’t an option. Does anyone know if OEBB assign seats together when booking for multiple passengers?

Then when should I book the regular tickets for it to show reservations? Also any idea where to book regular tickets from paris to barcelona for cheap. Cause based of my research regular tickets even booking them 3-4 months in advance the cheapest is around 140 euros which is insane in websites like sncf/raileurope

For reservations on Budapest-Vienna, I'd check a few weeks in advance. Maybe a month.

Paris-Barcelona is one of SNCF's cash cows. Tickets can be cheaper (I believe they start from €59) but when SNCF expect many passengers, then they don't offer such low fares.

You could look into using a TGV to southern France (Perpignan, Nîmes or Montpellier) and then regional trains via Portbou.

Alternatively, look into a pass. If you're doing enough journeys within 1 month, maybe a pass is worth it for all or some of the journeys. A sale has started today (until 1/4), with 15% discount on all passes except the one country pass for Switzerland.

That normally means you're too early.

If you're buying a regular ticket, then compare prices with https://jegy.mav.hu/

You can book seats later.

If you book for multiple persons you are always assigned seats together if possible.

Check from tomorrow, as SNCF has announced a sale. It won't be all dates though.

I have an idea on using the pass but I’m not quite sure if this works. So I’m planning to hit 13 cities in 2 months which is like 12 travel days but getting a pass for (15 travel days) is considerably expensive compared to the 10 travel day pass. Could I just buy regular tickets for the two cheapest destinations in my planner and use the 10 travel day on the most expensive train rides?. Cause I never done interail and was wondering whether they would be a problem if I started a travel day on a city that I never landed with the pass if that makes sense

180 days in advance, when booking opens. The price will only go up after that. And compare prices with tickets.oebb.at.

It is probably wise to do as you plan to do. There is no problem. Your individual train journeys don’t need to be connected.

Deutsche Bahn trains are already bookable until December 2025. The super cheap fares (Supersparpreis, non refundable) will slowly increase in price (almost) every time someone books that train, so it would be good to book a train as early as you can. The most expensive tickets are priced by distance and always cost the same. No need to prebook them. But for Vienna-Munich you’re looking at around 25€ (Supersparpreis) versus 105€ (flexible ticket). (I looked at a random weekday in August)

You could also consider Westbahn which is a private operator on the route Vienna-Munich and most of the time sells cheaper tickets. Compare the prices for your dates.

Also, regarding trains from Paris to barcelona there arent any trains during August. Even though I got told they open trains from paris 6 months in advance. Does anyone know when will they allow booking on sites like sncf or raileurope?

Multiple people mentioned that SNCF tickets for this summer are going to be released today.

Sales start in like 2h.

In Vienna you should board at the station most conveniently located from your accommodation: could be Meidling, Westbahnhof (Westbahn) or Hauptbahnhof (main station, ÖBB).

Where did you see that? SNCF do not have a fixed booking horizon. They often open reservations for a whole period at once.

Here's a picture of SNCF's release of tickets today (12th of March 2025)
