Hi,
We have bought a first class pass for this summer, and are planning on going from Denmark to France and back.
We are wondering if it is necessary to reserve spots in the reservations optional trains or if we, because we have the first class pass will be more likely to get a spot even without the reservation since we have the first class pass?

Don’t expect trains to be empty in first class, but on the other hand it’s often true that you’ll find first class less crowed. But it depends on route, time of day and train.

But between Denmark and France you won’t have that many trains without mandatory reservations (needed for cross border trains and long distance trains in France).

On the other hand you’d get a reservation for e.g. long distance trains in Germany for just 3 €. Of course this takes flexibility, too. And it’s always possible to go one hour later if a train is crowded, too (if there’s no need to catch a connecting train with mandatory reservation).

So it’s certainly not necessary; it’s more for the peace of mind.
