Question

Does one need a reservation for ICE from Cologne to Brussels?

The DB App doesn’t say one is necessary at all but somehow the Interrail App says it’ll be required (from E8). (Pretty sure I’ve been on this train before and cannot recall ever getting one...)

I’m looking to get back from Germany to England in July; Brussels is faster than Amsterdam but I’d like to avoid additional reservation fees (on top of the Eurostar ones).

Any advice appreciated. I’ve not yet raised a ticket with the helpdesk...

It’s was compulsory on the route in previous summers but not this year, though I believe Interrail has decided to mark it as compulsory anyway for some reason.

I’d certainly recommend one, anyway, as they can be busy. It’s only €3, from ÖBB.

Reservations are mandatory from 26/6 until 16/8, and are indicated as such in the DB planner, as far as I can see:

[R] = mandatory reservations

Ah, you’re right. I’d misremembered. (And in my defence, Seat61 is incorrect on this, too!)

Oh, sorry, you are right - I didn’t see that on the DB App as it also says seat reservation included in price but only when purchased with a ticket, i.e. not a pass. Thank you.
