Hello everyone!

We're traveling to Europe in July - Agust. We have a Eurail Global 7 Day Flexi Pass. Here's our itinerary:

1- London to Paris (reservationbooked) = 1travel day (Paris to Rome by plane)

2 - Rome to Pompeii to Florence = 2nd travel day

We're spending a day in Pompeii then traveling

on to Florence in the afternoon - can we count

that as 1 travel day using the same ticket OR

do we need to purchase additional tickets?

3 - Florence to Venice 3rd travel day

4 - Venice to Milan

5 - Milan to Switzerland

6 - Switzerland to Vienna

7 - Vienna to Germany

How soon should we book our Train reservations?

Thank you!

You can take as many trains as you like on an active travel day. So your plan works.

Italian reservations are best booked online through ÖBB ( the linked guide should describe how to do it)

You can book your reservations already as ÖBB allows you to fully refund them up to 14 days before the trip (as long as you did not download the pdf yet)

Thank you Marvin. I'll look into that.

Thank you

The most important reservation there is the Eurostar, and you already have that.

For the others, I would usually be happy making reservations the day before travel, though of course you can do so as soon as you know your exact plans.

The only exception would be if “Vienna to Germany” is a sleeper train to somewhere in the north? If it is, then book that ASAP. They often sell out. As mentioned above, they’re refundable 14 days before departure anyway.

Rome to Pompei is a long  way, let alone Pompei to Florence. Wow that is quite an itinerary for one day given the massive distances involved.

Rome to Pompei is only arround 2 hours (If you pay the 13€ for reservations on the highspeed train to Neapel) But yeah florence is the other direction from Rome then Pompeii( arround 4h in total). If you start in the morning and arrive late you atleast still have enough time for pompeii.

@RowenaCM Just a tip regarding Pompeii: Book the tickets some time in advance if you plan to visit the archealogic sites in Pompeii. I waited a bit too long with that the last time i visited Neapel (atleast for the afternoon ticket that i wanted).

Hi Joanne! Do you think so?

Rome to Naples to Pompeii, I thought, is around 2hrs and Pompeii to Naples to Florence is around 3. If we get to Pompeii at 10AM, and leave for Florence around 4  we get to Florence at 7PM, have dinner and relax.

We're used to driving long distances for day trips. We're in Canada and a 2 -3 hour drive for a day trip is normal.

Thank you for your input.
