I booked a Eurostar Plus seat reservation from Amsterdam => London => Amsterdam this coming weekend (outbound 13/3, return 15/5) with my 1st class Interrail pass. The return leg was cancelled without letting me know. Has anyone else experienced the same?

Last night I checked in the Eurostar app and the return leg said “Cancelled”. I received no email or or SMS. No explanation. Nothing about a refund. On the Eurostar website (not the app) the return part of the journey has just disappeared. On the B-Europe site (where I booked it) the return part has disappeared without any mention.

The train I booked on is still running. I can see it on the Eurostar website. A single 2nd class ticket is €198.

On the B-Europe site I paid €45 for each direction. It now shows that it costs €67. There is no mention of a refund.

I’ve had to book the night ferry for €150 (plus train on the NL side because it’s another day of travel) because I need to travel on that date.

Anyone else experience the same?

Have you called Eurostar to ask whether this train is indeed still running? What did they say? (I also still see it as running on their website.)

You have until 3 months after the booked date if you need a refund, so no need to rush now.

Eurostar cannot cancel a ticket/reservation and as long as you don't ask for a refund, they have obligations towards you.

If you haven't called yet, then I'd do that first. And then decide what you want.

If the train indeed isn't running, then I'd claim back all extra expenses from Eurostar.

@rvdborgt thanks. I called B-Europe/SNCB because I bought the seat reservation through them. They told me:

  • The reservation had been cancelled 30 minutes after I made it on 28/2 - of course I was not aware until I looked in the Eurostar app
  • They didn’t know why it was cancelled, but also found it weird
  • They could not rebook my reservation and there are no remaining Interrail seats at times that work for me (I suspected that would be the case which is why I bought a fully-flexible ferry ticket)

They also said that I could only get €22 refund because there was a €23 fee which applies. I explained to the very polite woman I spoke to that I refused to accept that fee. She then said I needed to get in contact with their customer complaints department to try and get a refund.

Who cancelled it? Did they say so?

As I wrote, Eurostar do not have the right to cancel the contract. If they did this, then please call Eurostar. They are then required to rebook you free of charge, regardless of any pass holder quota, also regardless of available class.

Do NOT ask for a refund now. You have 3 months as I wrote if you need a refund.
