Florence to Lugano

I’m trying to identify the best way to get from Florence to Lugano in Switzerland at the end of May 2024 utilising our Global Pass. Using the Eurail trip planner it takes almost 8 hours to complete the journey. The planner takes us on a magical mystery tour via Milan, Domodossola and then Locarno before Lugano. Using the Orario Treni app it takes exactly half the time via Bologna, Milan and then direct to Lugano. The problem with the Eurail planner appears to be the leg from Milan to Lugano. What am I doing wrong?

Never use the Rail planner app or the Eurail website to plan. They're unreliable and often incomplete. Use national websites or apps to plan; for international travel, bahn.com or the DB Navigator app is a good choice.

The problem here is that Trenitalia are very late publishing the new timetable from 10 December, especially for regional trains. They have just published it on trenitalia.com and it will take some time to get to other planners.

Please ask questions in the community and not via a private message. That's the quickest way to get a response. I don't work for Eurail/Interrail.
