Hi, anyone who has recently gone on the overnight train from Budapest to Bucharest, are there any catering facilities at all on board-Anywhere to buy snacks/drinks, etc. Thanks!

There are several such trains-and some are announced to have even a rest.-car on one part (it will never go over the border), but this is also often told to be lacking. IF it is there-the HU-car has a fairly good reputation for not too much overpriced and HU-tasty hot food. RO is usually barely acceptable.

Often the attendants of the sleepers have their own little shop/moneymaker were they have a few things for sale and can make instant cf/T. But a bit unpredictable in what there actually is.

But frankly: anyone who is a little wise does not rely on train catering-in and around (cheaper) all main stations are scores of shops/supermarkets etc to stock up. Near the Keleti is a fairly new giant Lidl supermarket 1 busstop away toward town -across that Ibis HTL-it was a pretty good self-serve restrt long before that. Or for real Brits: TEsco is quite big in HU and has a big hypermarket east of Keleti-in yet another shopping centre. In the lower square across from Nyugati is a big Spar-recently the ready-take-away section has been much expanded. And there is also a Carrefour?- inside the other hi-rise shopping centre to the side of it. And a small tesco-to-go on the other side, beyond McDon.
