Has anyone tried to book a reservation 45 minutes before departure at the station?

yeah i did it quite often but not for Eurostar services as they are sold out weeks in advance.
And according to some reports in /en forums: the old €* counter is still unmanned at all times-so that makes this proposal not really feasible for now.
