My parents and I are traveling to Europe for the first time this November. In order to build paperwork for our Schengen visa application, I booked train seat reservations ahead of time. But because of some inconveniences regarding our visa application, I had to change booking our hotels. This means that, now, the current seat reservation for one of our rides (ICE 78) is on the “wrong” day. I’ve tried canceling or rescheduling the reservation, but I cannot. My sister suggests that I make a new reservation on the right day. What happens to the previous booking if we don’t ride it?

Yes seat reservations are generally non-refundable nor exchangeable.
Nothing will happen to the previous booking, don't worry ! Someone else will probably take your seats (reservations are optional).
Make a new reservation, it is cheaper to go through the railway companies :
- 3€ per train on ÖBB
- 4.90€ per journey on DB (seat map included)
Let me know for further questions or doubts. :)
