How to book private sleeper with Eurail pass on SJ night train

Hi - two of us are travelling on Eurail Global passes (2nd class) and want to book a private sleeper cabin on the SJ night train from Abisko to Stockholm (D93).

On the Eurail site it only seems to provide the option to book 2 berths/beds in a shared 3 berth sleeper cabin, not a private cabin. Is there any way of booking a private 3 berth sleeper cabin or is that not possible with a Eurail pass?

thanks

Try searching on sj.se/en - you can add your pass in the search box “Traveller 1 … Travels with travel card” to get Interrail reservations.

However, I can’t remember if it’s possible to book a private compartment on SJ. You need a live pass to check availability.

Private compartments for 1&2 peoplecan be booked with a first class pass. ( But only if the train has 1 class compartments). With a second class pass you only get a private compartment with 3 people.

There are no 1st class sleeper carriges on the SJ night train to Abisko/Narvik.

The only way to book a private compartment in this train with a pass is to book 3 "male” beds, and verify before payment that they're in the same compartment.

And if you travel with Interrail/Eurail, you must then have 3 passes.

It may be a better idea to book a child fare for the 3rd bed, assuming that's a reduced fare.

Thanks all for the advice. It looks like there is no discount with a Eurail pass anyway for a private cabin - it only covers individual berths, so we would need to buy 3 berths together to have it to ourselves.

That's why I wrote to book 3 berths AND check before paying that they're in the same compartment.

I’ve just found the same for my Stockholm>Narvik route in January.

But even though the standard website sometimes shows private 1st & 2nd class cabins available, they disappear once I put in my pass number...but the T&Cs do say there are limited tickets/reservations for Interrail/Eurail pass holders so I assume it’s something to do with limited supply of those discounted options.

I did consider paying for a private one instead, but they were around 6000SEK (£500/AU$1000) instead of the pass price for the shared space of 405SEK (£35/AU$70)..and the non-pass price for sharing was 3000SEK (£250/AU$500)...per leg of the trip.

AFAIK SJ don't have limited pass holder quota.

I guess it’s just down to current availability when I’m trying different booking options/days then 👍

Yes, I have also found a large jump in price for a private compartment. Obviously it’s more cost effective when you are travelling in a group, because you are effectively paying for the empty berths.
