Planning/Timetables:
Many of you will notice that the Railplanner of Eurail will have sometimes different times of the trains as other Websites/Apps. Or evenworse the railplanner wont show any train for your desired Route. The Railplanner of Eurail only shows the timetables that are shared by the Railcompanies unfortunately not all Railcompanies share these and even update it not frequently. The Result is that the Railplanner of Eurail is not always uptodate and because ofthat I and other experienced travelers recommend to use the Local Websites and Apps to check the times and even book the reservations with them (when possible).

Below here finally the main words :D
Hi if you are useing a Railpass there will be the point that a train needs a Reservation 🙂 Many of you ask where to get a reservation for a specific train.

First of all there are 2kinds :)
Supplements like the Intercity Direct in Netherlands or the German/Austrian - Italian Supplement on Eurocity & Railjets that have to be paid and doesnt include a seat 😕.

And Seatreservations like the TGV,Eurostar or Thalys that include in the supplement fee even a seat reservation.

There are several ways reserve a seat :)
A. on the Website of the Traincompany that operate the train.

B. at the trainstation (On major stations you have “International ticket desks” they often can reserve even trains in a different country for example you can reserve your TGV from Munich to Paris already in Prague 🙂 )

C. Via the Railplanner app of  Eurail itself :)  a small service fee will be charged

D. Via the booking Callcenter of a traincompany.

E. Via a Reservation service website or a well experienced Railagency :)

More informations provided by the Man on Seat 61 :)

General Websites to reserve trains here you can find out which websites can help you.

We highly suggest to confirm the times of your trains in the Railplanner with Local Railplanner apps or atleast with one of the major ones. I general i recommend even to plan your trips with these app instead of Railplanner.

Reservations for trains Italy-France

Route Paris-Lyon-Turin-Milan:

Currently Railway closed near Modane. It should start a rail replacement bus between Modane and Charmonix linked by TGV from/to Milan and Paris. Or use trains via Switzerland.

Hallo

Reservations for Eurostar and Thalys trains and TGV Brussel-France

Booking reservations for Eurostar and Thalys trains is possible via:

  • French railways ticket office or by phone (press #85 for English, no booking fee, delivery via e-mail).

This isn’t a question so I hope any pollution of the thread will be forgiven!

I’m just posting to share my experience of calling this number, in order to advise prospective reservers that they may have a battle on their hands…

I rang this number today with four reservations to make; 2 for the Eurostar, 1 for Thalys and 1 for the SNCF Nice-Paris night train. The night train was the only booking it was possible to make. On two separate occasions I tried to read the call-handler the passage from the webpage that said “Want to call Eurostar or Thalys?” …. “If booking online … isn’t convenient, you can use this international line to do whatever you need from wherever you are”, but while he was very patient and polite, he simply would not accept that international bookings could be made on that number, and would not transfer me to a colleague, explaining several times that this was the number of the SNCF, which was the French national train operator and could be used for only TGV Inoui and Intercites.

Ok thanks for the information. What I read here in the community is that they often say not possible even when it would be, but maybe Thalys and Eurostar can't be booked directly via SNCF call center? They can book other international destinations like to Barcelona or Germany. SNCF Call Center is something weard, do accept only some cards, sometimes they do not reserve seats, sometimes yes.

@rvdborgt do you know something more about it?

My knowledge is the same. SNCF can book Thalys and Eurostar but it seems they often refuse to do so via the phone.

To Make Reservations in Greece via Email

Train reservations in Greece are obligatory but completely free to make, not only for both 1st and 2nd class, but also for IC trains, ICE (Pendolino) trains, and long-term bus substitutions like Kiato - Patras and Drama - Xanthi.

While this is excellent and very refreshing compared to the seat reservation in other southern European countries, it is important not to abuse this service so that it remains available. Email bookings are probably only possible with Hellenic Train because of the simplicity of not having to conduct a formal transaction or process card details.

DO NOT book unless you are very sure that you will catch the train that you are requesting, and be very careful to enter all details correctly. (Basically, don’t rush it.)

(Please note that I don’t know how often others have booked using this method, or how successful it would be if attempted during peak season; but for now, this works)

First, go to hellenictrain.gr/en.

First, you need to decide which trains and seats you want. The interface on this page is a bit clunky, so without filling in the fields above, just click on the blue bar as shown.
Fill in the journey details from the drop-down boxes at the top of the page, then click Search. The most significant stations are displayed separately at the top of the list, then all the more minor stations, both sets being in Roman alphabetical order.
Select a service, then click Seat selection and passengers.
Now you can view seating options and availability. (If your journey involves a change of train, you may need to first click on the train icon on the left of the page to bring up this display.) Click on the coach numbers to see their seating plans; A1, A2 and A3 are 1st class, and the B coaches are of course 2nd.

Now make a note of your seating preferences and train details (including train number), and return to the homepage (hellenictrain.gr/en).

Click Contact.
Scroll about a third of the way down the page and click this link.
Now fill in this form, making sure all boxes marked with a red asterisk are completed.
In the Topic box, select Other and then put “Interrail seat reservation request” or similar in the box that will appear below.
Because this is designed as an incident form, you must enter a date, time, station and train number in the following boxes. If you like, you can enter the details of the train that you wish to reserve here, even though the date is in the future. (Note that the drop-down box of stations is in Greek alphabetical order.)
In the comments box, write a short message clearly stating your request(s); the train number, time, date, the numbers of your seat preferences, and the names of any other travellers you are booking for.
At the bottom of the page, it is very important that you change none under Contact by, to email. Otherwise your request may not receive a reply!
Also tick the box as indicated, which simply means you agree to the privacy policy.
Then click send!

Within a few days to a week, you should receive an email confirming your seat reservations, which you will need to collect the physical tickets for in person by showing your Interrail pass and passport at the ticket counter of a main Greek station. This email hopefully will not come from a No-Reply address, but if it does, and you need to get in contact with them again, cite the query number (“ID Δρομολόγιο”) that came with the automated receipt email immediately after you sent off the initial form.

*EDIT - Having looked more carefully at my confirmation email, I’m not sure about this but the ticket collection *may* actually always be at the departure station. So if you made a booking for Thessalonike to Athens, and then another one from Athens to Kalampaka, you would need to collect the first ticket in Thessalonike before boarding, and the second in Athens before boarding. I don’t know how (if at all) this would work for boarding at minor unstaffed stations, but if you were to request such a booking that issue would probably be addressed in the email correspondence.

hi, actually i m holding Eurail global mobile pass and i want to book seat reservation for attached journey, MARNE LA VALLEE CHESSY (France) to Schiphol Airport on 27/11, but it shows price unavailable. Nonetheless, i check from Thalys website ( as attached), the train is not full,

Q1) Can i go to Schiphol airport counter and reserve my seat when we reach on 17/11?

Q2) If i aldy secure seat for other timing, is it possible to change to another time slot? or seat reservation is not refundable & exchangeable? Thanks

@Ongong Please ask the question in an extra post and not here! Thanks.

Several Italian Trains - I always  notice “tickets not available”
Via the ÖBB app / site is it not possible to get tickets/reservations - i.g.  Pisa - Florence.
After entering in the website ‘discount’  and wanting to add a reservation only, I see for all the trains: “tickets not available”
Does that mean that we can enter the train with our Interrail card without a reservation?
For the trip Milan - Padua we had to pay a reservation…
What is normal in Italy?

Hi, you have to click on one way ticket and not on only a seat (reservation).

On that, you don’t need reservations for local trains on Pisa to Florence route. On this route don’t take long distance trains, because the ride is short.

uff!!

@Piga Fredy As mentioned above several times, please ask your question(s) in a separate topic, so this topic remains a topic with information about reservations only.

ya lo he hecho! muchas gracias!!!

Hello, I have a question for a reservation with the OBB  from Venice to Innsbruck. After following the instructions posted here I get two options, to pay 20 EUR, or to choose the option: “ticket already exists”  and pay only 3 EUR  for a reservation. My question is if my Eurorail pass counts already as a ticket? or If have to pay the 20 EUR. The 20 EUR option has the “applicable discount: Eurorail pass” applied to it. So i don’t get the difference.  Or which one I’m supposed to choose.

Here is option 1:

Here option 2:

Thank you!!!

Please create your own topic.

The 20€ price is correct but doesn't include a seat reservation for Verona - Innsbruck :

- 10€ Frecciarossa seat reservation

- 10€ Brenner Pass surcharge

You can add a seat reservation for the second leg for 3€. Or buy the 10€ Frecciarossa reservation and the surcharge at cd.cz where it includes a free seat reservation

Edit : for 11th June the full summer timetable isn't released so you can't see regional trains. There is a RegioExpress leaving Venice at 09:10 (Verona 10:38) that you could take, it is reservation-free

how to avoid this supplement?

You can often avoid this supplement if you will only go to stations that are not far from the border to Austria in Italy. Like Udine or Bolzano/Bozen. In this cases the supplement is to much for short rides.

  • Villach-Tarvisio-Udine(-Trieste) line use the Micotra local trains instead. Reservation needed (or optional??) but it is free via tickets.oebb.at. No supplement needed. https://www.obb-italia.com/de/ab-italien/micotra
  • Brennero/Brenner you can use the Eurocity till Brennero/Brenner or get there by local trains and change in Brennero-Brenner to local trains in Italy*. Reservation or supplement not needed. Local trains (R - regionale) run hourly. *Trains operated by SAD on lines where also Trenitalia trains are running are not included in the pass. But often they accept it.

Domestic trains in Croatia

Reservations for domestic journeys in Croatia can be made at a Croatian ticket office or by email, for seats, couchettes or sleepers (e.g. the night train Zagreb-Split). To book, send an e-mail to rezervacije@hzpp.hr, max. 2 months in advance. Payment is done with a bank transfer, which means this works best with bank accounts from SEPA countries.

For journeys from 1 July 2023, seat reservations for day trains Zagreb-Split can also be made on tickets.oebb.at. Price is €3, 2nd class only. For reservations in 1st class, send an e-mail to rezervacije@hzpp.hr.

To Make Reservations in Greece via Email

I don’t want to mess up this overview, but don’t see another way than replying in this topic - So you may delete my remark and add it it to the original post

Thanks for your explanation. So I followed the steps (little change in website; there are 2 forms now: generaal info and complaints) and got an answer back: Unfortunately I can’t make reservations this way. I have to do it locally at the train station. So we will see next week - I hope I can do at least all my reservations at 1 place
