Istanbul to Italy

I'm travelling from Istanbul to Florence (via Budapest) and finding booking / reservations on the interrail site quite complicated - especially for the Istanbul - Budapest leg.

I've looked at the Bosphorus night train which seems you can only reserve at the train station in Istanbul.

Does anyone have any tips or route reccomendations particularly from Istanbul - Budpest?

The route to Sofia or Bucuresti Nord I'm struggling to be able to reserve on the interrail site?

Thank you!!

Hey,

I suppose you won’t be only in Istanbul and immediately go to Budapest or?

This route can’t be reserved on Interrail website.
You can do it in the station in Istanbul (best to do in Halkali (on arrival) or if you are in the center, then in Sirkeci station. Sirkeci should work 8-20). If you are before in Bulgaria you can also buy the reservation there at an international ticket office.

The direct carriage Istanbul-Bucharest runs only until beginning of October. After that you have to change trains in Dimitrovgrad and Gorna Orjahovitsa.
The connection with departure at 17.45 is risky… last time I used it I had to run through Bucuresti Nord station and jump in the open door of the last carriage… So better to use the train at 22.00 to Budapest (with couchette). Then you’ve time for a dinner in Bucuresti.
Bucuresti-Budapest you can buy at the station (international ticket office) in Bucuresti. Seats are never sold out, couchette/sleeping car depends on day and time of year.

Hi, it depends the route you will take. But my tip is further south you go, it is not possible to reserve a seat online. Only at ticket offices of middle and east European train companies like Deutsche Bahn, Hungarian MAV-START or directly at the ticket office of the train company that run the train.

Understood… So, do you think that starting after Christmas I can arrive in time for 28th Dec? [Capito… Allora, pensi che dopo Natale io possa arrivare in tempo?]

Cause if train is full, It will be a huge problem [Perché se il treno è pieno, sarà un grosso problema]
