My kids have the 2nd class flex pass and need to travel to Amsterdam from Mainz on May 26. The Eurorail website says reservations are avaialble but not required on the 11:42 train tomorrow from Frankfurt to Amsterdamn. They tried to get a reserved seat using the app but it said none are available. Does this mean passholders can no longer get on this train without reservations. Or would they have to take a chance to find seats and if so, how likely is this to work.
You can do the booking at DB (the German Railway)
You need to select "Seat only" to only get the reservation.
You do know that it isn't a direct train. You have to change trains in Köln and Düsseldorf.
It is possible to travel on the train without reservation, but if the train is too crowded people without reservation will have to leave the train.
It is a long weekend starting tomorrow. That's why the demand on reservations is so high.
You have plenty of choice to reach K or D-and from then, if ICE direct is really full to overflowing, there are ample, slowr (NahVerkehr) routings-via Venlo or Arnhem.
Passholders are expected to fetch for themselves-and even be somehow able to find these easy things also by themselves.
