New to Interrail - snag on first attempt to book in Spain

Hi, help requested!

I am fairly new to Interrail. Our first journey is from Santander (coming in on ferry from Plymouth UK)  to Bilbao .. but when I enter this journey on Eurail it comes up with ridiculously long journeys of 11 or 23 hours. Anyone know what’s going on? It’s only 46 miles! Hmm? Advice about making reservations in Spain gratefully received.

The company (FEVE) doesn’t share its timetables with the European database so it’s complicated… have a look at https://www.renfe.com/es/en and add the journey manually. There should be 3 daily trains. It’s a very slow but beautiful route. :)

You might need a free ticket to open the gates, available at the station. Here’s a trip report:
