Night train - IRT 2 class. What does this mean

Hi,

I am looking to do a night train from Zurich to Ljubijana on May 23rd for the 20:40. I am very confused on the person. It says I need to buy a seat reservation of USD $18.53. Okay makes sense there. However when I go to OEBB website and click Seat Reservation only it says no tickets available. When I unclick that box, it shows me the cost of OEBB ticket starting at 55 euros and then whatever seat I want.

I guess my question is, when I pay on Eurail for the seat reservation of $18.53, am I getting some sort of seat on OEBB or do I have to do something else on OEBB website?

Hi,

On the ÖBB website you need to select Interrail/Eurail in the discounts list and then click on one-way tickets. The 14.90€ seat reservation fee will appear.

I'd strongly advise against seats on night trains (zero comfort, tight space to recline when full, compartment not lockable,...) but sadly couchettes are already sold out. Other option is a bed in a double compartment for 139.90€

Last point: as you may have noticed, the night train does not actually stop in Ljubljana (works until mid-July). You'll get off in Celje and then board either a replacement bus or a train. Tickets in Ljubljana are cheap so I'd keep the second pass day and buy a ticket online or at the station. Timetables look as follows:

- arrival in Celje at 09:47

- Train Celje - Zidani Most - Ljubljana 10:31 - 12:05 7.70€

- Bus Celje - Ljubljana 11:35 - 12:42 9.20€

Feel free to ask anything.

EDIT: though if you're in no rush, you could do that too:

- IC Zürich HB - Stuttgart Hbf 15:37 - 18:43

- dinner around the station

- EN Stuttgart Hbf - Celje 20:29 - 09:47 -> couchettes at 49/59€

Some carriages start in Zurich, some in Stuttgart and they're coupled overnight.

Sorry, I am not understanding your message. When I go to OEBB website, it shows ticket Not Available. Do not see the Eurorail discount anywhere.  Where is the Eurarail discount you are talking about.

For the Eurrail pass that is $18,53 USD, is that a ticket for a seat OR do I have to pay additional money on OEB website?

On the ÖBB website:

  1. Only search for the train you want to book, which in this case is the night train to Celje.
  2. Please do NOT use "Seat reservation only” for this train. As you see, that doesn’t work. Instead, add the Interrail/Eurail discount and click on Find. You can also use nightjet.com (add the same discount).

The price you see on the Eurail website is a seat reservation for your pass plus a €2 booking fee. You don't pay an extra booking fee via ÖBB or nightjet.com.

You need to click on the “adult without discount” field and then add your discount Interrail/Eural there.

I’d also advide against just having a seat on a night train, so the detour via Stuttgart described by thibcabe seems a good option to me.
