ÖBB Journey Change

Hi. I had booked an ÖBB train from Vienna to Salzburg in October. When I was looking at the app, I realize that there has been a change in my journey. Based on my checking, my train has been changed from RJ642 to IC642. I had reserved first class seats. Will my seats still be valid because the type of train changed? :/ I booked back in May only to see this change now.

I am unable to call their hotline as I am based in Asia and it’ll be expensive for overseas call. I had sent them an enquiry via their website but I heard that they may have take some time to reply.

In the event that nothing has been done by the time I reach Vienna, do you think it would be possible to go to the OBB office at the train station to ask them to reserve seats on my behalf, or should I take a risk to enter the first class cabin and sit on any empty seats?

I’ll be traveling on a Thursday if that helps

Thank you in advanced

Hi,

The layout on these trains are completely different (see links below), so your best bet is indeed to go to the ticket office in Wien/Vienna, and ask if they can reserve a new seat. Sending an email anyway won’t hurt any, and if they haven’t responded then go to the ticket office anyway. Right now there still are first class reservations available. If you are travelling on Interrail or Eurail you are also flexible to take a different train, which personally I would choose as 2+2 seating, even in first is something I find unpleasant, but to each their own, plus I like the dining car on Railjets which your train won't have, just a little snack corner.
