Hi all

Looking at reserving a 2nd class couchette on this service for four people.

On the sncf booking site it appears I can still get a private space (Espace Privatif), but here I can’t tell if one of the above prices is for a private couchette. Any ideas? If not, do we know what the price difference is?

Many thanks

Paul

Unfortunately you can't book Espace Privatif with a pass.

You're correct - the cheaper reservation is for seats only. The other is for 4 beds in a 6-berth compartment.

Rail Europe shows this information much better.

OK I may have just worked out that the price difference is seat v couchette?

If so, any thoughts on how I can book private?

@ralderton

Do you know if the price of €316.00 includes an upgrade for 2nd class passes or if it is the price for 1st class passes?

I thought it was the cash price, but it does appear to be a Eurail/ Interrail price, including an upgrade fee for second class pass holders. It's cheaper than the full cash price for that date.

If you have a first class pass, the price for the 4-berth drops to €100.

Interesting! Thanks.

I wasn’t able to find the journey in raileurope before, but now it’s there! Must have been searching wrong.

I found that it didn’t show up when you search Paris (all stations) to Latour (all stations). You need Paris Austerlitz to Latour de Carol-Enveitg!

This is a long-standing issue. The Interrail website does not show the difference between seat and couchette on an SNCF night train.

If you want to minimise the extra fees:

Interrail and Rail Europe now charge an extra €2 per person and train.
