Picking Seats for Train from Copenhagen to Hamburg

On my upcoming trip this May, I am planning to take the train from Copenhagen to Frankfurt. My wife and I have the 1st class Global pass and we understand that we don’t need to make a reservation for this trip. However, we would like to reserve and pick our seats if possible, but it seems only the Hamburg to Frankfurt leg allows us to pick the exact seats, while the Copenhagen to Hamburg leg has automatically assigned seats even if we pay for reservation. I’ve checked this both on the DSB and DB website and it is the same for both. My question is whether the Copenhagen to Hamburg leg allows for picking exact seats closer to the date (say 2 months in advance?), or will it always be automatically assigned? If we can’t pick seats for the first leg regardless, would it make more sense to just make the whole reservation now so that I have more choices of seats for the Hamburg to Frankfurt leg? I’ve also heard you might be able to pick seats on the cd.cz website but you need to put in the exact seat number as they don’t have a map to choose from. I’ve checked vagonweb.cz but it doesn’t look like there is any seat map for the new Talgo trains on that route either so I don’t think I can use this method at this time either. Any one has any experience picking seats for this route on that site as well?

Afaik, it’s not possible to pick seats from a map on that particular route.

However you can try to book on the Czech railways website (cd.cz). They reveal your seat number before payment. Usually this works but when I travelled on that route last week, the reservation was for some reason not possible through the mentioned website.

Anyways, the system should allocate seats together whenever possible.

@waruione

Not all railways offer this possibility. It might be introduced later after a software update, but railways usually don’t inform about planned changes in advance.
