Hi

I've been looking into the possibility of interrailing around Germany with my 8 y o daughter this summer. I would like to plan a bit before I buy the Pass and see whether it's a good idea but I am experiencing difficulties figuring out prices and booking etc.

I think I would need a one country pass for Germany. I've understood I could also travel on a night train from Italy, but the app planner does not offer the option of the Nightjet and if I try on OBB I get a price which seems close to a full price for a couchette.

Is it all this complicated, having to counter check on three apps to figure out which train, how much and do on? It feels s bit daunting... please provide any advice for first time planner with kid, that would be very appreciated.

Many thanks!

The German rail pass is not valid on any night trains. Where did you ready that?

A global pass may be better, depending on what journeys you'll do.

The Rall Planner app should never be used to plan because it’s not reliable. Its main purpose it to manage your pass.

As to the night train prices: on the ÖBB and Nightjet websites, you have to add the Interrail/Eurail discount to see the pass prices. Also keep in mind that the “private compartment” does not have a pass price. If you want specific advice on a train, please mention route, date and departure time. Nightjet prices are dynamic, not fixed, also for pass reservations.

Many thanks

You are absolutely right, I was confused after reading this.

So I guess I need to figure out whether the best choice is a global pass or simply a train ticket from Turin to Germany and then maybe a monthly German pass would prove even cheaper…

But it's good to know I should not use the Rail Planner to plan (maybe it should have a different name :-D )

Thanks!
