I was booking trenitalia euro city train from Geneva to venice, and the 2nd class tickets were sold out. I then bought the 2nd class priority seats. Is this an issue? Does this have any specific requirements?

Priority seats are reserved for people with mobility issues.

I don't know the policy of Trenitalia on this subject, but on most carriers it's okay to sit there when there's nobody who needs that specific seat.

But if someone without a mobility issue has booked the seat, then a person with a mobility issue can't book the seat.

@BrendanDB thanks. Unfortunately i didn't know what it was during booking, as it was not specified. Is there a way to change the reservation? Or will this create issues during journey time

Where did you book the reservation?

It may be possible to import the booking into the Trenitalia app and change it there. In that app, go to My Journeys and tap on Retrieve another ticket.

I booked it directly through Interrail. Do you think that’s possible?

AFAIK Interrail books the reservations through Trenitalia and provides a PDF generated by Trenitalia, so do try it.

Okay, so I tried that. I’m only allowed to change the seats within the 2nd class priority option.

In other words, I can only change it to any other priority seat. Do you think I can be fined for not being disabled and taking up a priority seat?

All other seats might already be fully booked. Could you mention route, date and departure time?

They’re not. I checked the availability directly on their website and tons of seats are free.

OK, that's strange. You couldn't change to another carriage either?

You could also try the same on trenitalia.com.

By the way, for Milan to Zurich, I'd just use the regional train to Lugano and then an IC to Zurich, all reservation-free.

I could change to another carriage on the trenitalia’s website, however the seats that were being shown up as available were only the priority seats.

This reservation was totally free, because I won 4 free seat reservations on interrails website. That’s why I prefer to get the express train:)

Also the seat reservation is non-refundable, so I can only make changes to It, I can’t cancel it.

Hi there, just wondering how you went with it, as I’m in the same situation (accidentally booked a priority seat).

Yeah, nobody gave a f*ck. No issues whatsoever.
