Hi! I am new to using the train network in Europe and had a couple questions~

  1. I have bought some seat reservations from Vienna → Hallstatt through OBB and realised the same trip doesn’t show on the Eurrail app. I know I should add it manually, but when I do, should I add the two legs of the journey separately, or just the overall journey?
  2. Knowing that there are slightly different journeys on country websites like OBB vs Eurrail app, which one should I trust? Should I be constantly checking if the same train I booked on OBB still exists? I don’t want to be missing a train just because the times from my ticket I bought a month ago don’t line up with the real times.
  3. I’m a bit confused about the ticket system. I have seat reservations, so do I have to print out the tickets from the confirmation email to board? And ontop of this, do I also have to activate the journey on my Eurrail app?

I have bought the 4 days in a month Eurrail pass. The trip is still a month away, but I just wanted to clear some things up now because I’m quite confused ..

Thank you!!

Hello @bilonworld

1/ Do you mean Hallstatt in Austria? In this case be sure to select “Wien Westbahnhof” as start. If you travel to Germany, select “Hallstatt(B. Bamberg)” as destination. If you cannot find the connection, we need the time and date of departure and the tain number to help you.

2/ The timetable in the Rail Planner is not always accurate. It is better to plan your trip with the timetable of the ÖBB. Changes can happen, for example for engineering works. Check always the schedule short before departure.

3/ It is not necessary to print the reservations if they are not mandatory, they will not be checked. But you must always activate the journey in the Rail Planner to get a ticket with a QR code.

Thank you so much @Danhiel for your reply!!

This is the info from the OBB booking:

→ I’m not sure if the departure and arrival locations are the ones you specified

→ this is the trip I can’t find in the rail planner app - I can only find a direct Hallstatt to Wien Hbf trip - in this case should I add it manually

@bilonworld

The first train continues to Wien Westbahnhof, it is not necessary to change in Linz. But, if it is better for you to arrive in Wien Hbf, depending of your accommodation, you can change in Linz. In this case you can add the two legs separately in Rail Planner: Hallstatt - Linz and Linz - Wien.

Three examples:

1/ Hallstatt - Wien Westbahnhof without change

2/ Hallstatt - Linz Hbf

3/ Linz Hbf - Wien Hbf

@Danhiel Oh my goodness thank you so much!!

These names of train stations definitely confused me - Westbahnhof is actually closer so that works out well.

Thank you again for your help!
