Does it make sense that happyrail allow to book a seat for trains Barcelona Madrid while RailEurope says  interrail is not valid in that train?

Am I misunderstanding something from happyrail?

Thanks

The 9am train is sold out in 2nd class. Happy Rail will always show seat prices but fail further in the booking process.

It's Renfe, so anything is possible.

Renfe have a habit of making unannounced changes every once in a while, after which 3rd parties like Rail Europe, Happyrail and Eurail have to make changes to make it work again.

But before we draw conclusions: what's your travel date and departure time?

Thanks for quick answer. For example friday this week in the morning, Barcelona - Madrid.

That's not a departure time.

Take any time in the morning, in RailEurope no train shows available. For example AVE at 9:00

Thanks, that explains why happyrail shows different.

I tried renfe phone and they claim is not possible to book seats through phone service,  contrary to what many sites said.

Did I have bad luck with the person I talked or what is the reality?

There's some catch. If I remember correctly, you need to pick them up within 24 hours at a ticket machine. You might've also found an employee that didn't know the system...

The best way to book reservations is through Rail Europe. Though if a train is sold out, it's sold out. You can check seat maps and how many seats are left deep in the booking process on the RENFE website (where you can't book passholder reservations of course...).

If you have issues, mention specific train and route. The earlier you book the better.
