Romanian domestic train, if reservation available on board

If the train is not fully booked on Romanian domestic trains like IR trains, is it possible to ride without reservation and buy reservation ticket through conductor?

Traveling from Suceava to Bucharest I tried to reserve at Cluj Napoca, but they said it must to be reserve at Suceava station. So I am worrying if the connection is short to buy at Suceava.

I heard SNCF is possible to ask conductor buy as there is a vacant. How about Romania?

They can certainly book IC 552 in Cluj (or any other domestic train), but the problem may be that they consider the change time too short and therefore don't want to sell you the second reservation in advance.

In any case, the Romanian planner doesn't give this connection and I'd also consider it too short (and too early), given Romanian timekeeping.

IRN 12767 leaves Cluj at 23:04. CFR don't really really propose any convenient connections and lets you wait between midnight and 3:30 in Dej.

To reach IC 552, CFR propose to take IRN 1838 from Cluj at 21:25, which arrives in Suceava at 4:03.

But what is wrong with the direct night train leaving Cluj at 19:40 and arriving in Bucharest at 6:17? There's still availability in all comfort classes.

Also keep in mind that, when you change trains after midnight, you'll need another travel day if you're using a flexipass. Or a regular ticket of course.

This sounds like the staff at Cluj Napoca didn't feel like selling you a reservation, although they are able to. And were in fact obliged to after you asked.

I'd ask again next time you get to a station. Which exact train (route, date, departure time) are you trying to book?

IRN 12767 to IC 522 at Suceava arrives 5:40 and departs 5:45. How can i afford to buy tickets at station?

It is no problem if i can't caught the train for only 5 minutes. But in case I caught it, i am not sure to getting in without reservation.

IC 522 doesn't stop at Suceava.

IRN 12767 stops there from 5:40 to 5:55.

Neither turns up when I ask for a journey Suceava to Bucharest.

Please answer the question I asked: Which exact train (route, date, departure time) are you trying to book?

But domestic trains can be booked at any Romanian ticket office. Just ask at the next one you come across. It’s nonsense that a certain train can only be booked at 1 station only.

Apr 2 From

IRN 12767 Cluj Napoca 14:51 to Suceava 5:40

Changing to

IC 552 Suceava 5:45 to București Nord

I have a mistake. Not IC 522

I indicated my journey in Romanian and print and showed. Even the next queue, it says that must be reserve at Suceava. And it was a bit crowded. So they may refuse to get me reservation. If there is no time, I will try boarding without reservation and ask conductor.

I have a continuous pass. And I now how often train delays in Romania but sometime it arrives in advance on my experience. So just I want to try even a short connections.

Why I choose this route because we love longer train rides than standard.

But thanks for the advice. I will try to reschedule taking IRN 1838 from Cluj Napoca instead.
