Seat Reservation for journeys in Germany

We have made a jounrey on our German Rail Twin Pass for a trip from Salzurg to Nuremburg. The trip is on two parts - Salzburg to Munich and Munich to Nuremburg, all in one day.  When we try to book seats from Salburg to Munich,  we get a message that “one or more passes don’t cover this journey”, yet it does allow us to book the trip!

Does this simply mean that “No seat reservations” are available?   Seats for Munich to Nuremburg are listed as unavailbe until 90 days before departure.

Which exact train do you want to take between Salzburg and Munich?

It should be covered, as Salzburg is specifically mentioned as valid with the German Rail Pass.

There are a number of different operators on that route. The regional trains don’t have any reservations - just add it to your pass and take any seat. The rest have optional reservations, which can be booked in different places. (The Interrail reservations page isn’t necessarily the best place to buy them. Good advice here)

The exception is if you have a first class pass, and want to use it in first class on Westbahn. Then you need an expensive reservation.

It's a known bug that I recently reported.

Anyway, don't book reservations via Eurail. That's expensive! Eurail charge €8 per person and train in Germany. At the same time, cd.cz charge €3 per person and train for refundable reservations. Or bahn.com charge €5.50 per person and journey (€6.90 in 1st class).

If booking a reservation doesn't work for you, then please mention route, date and departure time.
